Project Officer, Central African Republic

Description

For the past nine years, Invisible Children ("IC") has been focused on bringing a permanent end to LRA violence in East and Central Africa through an innovative and comprehensive model. Through our protection programs, we work with local partners to build and expand systems that warn remote communities of LRA attacks and encourage members of the LRA to peacefully surrender.

We are seeking a highly motivated Project Officer to play a crucial role on our Central African Republic team. This individual will support the implementation of Invisible Children's project in the LRA affected regions of CAR, with an emphasis on improving the Early Warning Radio Network, expanding Civil Society projects, and establishing a base of operations in Obo, CAR.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Work closely with the CAR Project Coordinator to manage project staff

  • Build program staff capacity and skills
  • Expand Civil Society projects in the Haut-Mbomou, in particular working on the psycho-social support of victims of the LRA
  • Facilitate the training of FM Radios: Zereda and Ani Du Sa

2. Manage the HF Early Warning Radio Network in CAR

  • Ensure quality-control of information reported over the network
  • Build the capacity of the HF 'Hub' in Obo and professionalize the exchange of information between Obo and Dungu
  • Customize literature for the Local Protection Committees, in order to improve their capacity for information reporting
  • Continue the implementation of monitoring and evaluation to measure the effectiveness of the Early Warning Radio Network and to identify areas of improvement

3. Assist in the logistical coordination of persons and equipment to support Invisible Children projects in the region

4. Attend coordination meetings organized by the UN and NGOs in Obo, Zemio, and Bangui as requested

5. Liaise with local government officials, traditional leaders, local and international NGO's in the Haut-Mbomou

6. Coordinate with PR Intern to create content to be sent to IC S an Diego's Communication Department for publication

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 1-3 year's field experience; Great Lakes region preferred
  • French and English fluency required
  • Proven ability to work in challenging environments
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
