Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of Community Programs, the Community Programs Manager coordinates, develops, manages and evaluates New York Cares' volunteer programs for senior and health based organizations. The Manager is responsible for expanding key program areas, identifying the programming needs of agencies and Team Leaders, and sustaining current programming.

  • Cultivating and maintaining collaborative partnerships with non-profits and social service agencies (senior centers/homes, hospitals, community centers, libraries, etc.)
  • Planning and implementing well organized and high quality volunteer service programs for teams of individuals as well as for our corporate sponsors
  • Recruiting, supporting and training volunteer project leaders
  • Managing multiple project budgets
  • Evaluating programs by attending volunteer projects, visiting existing partner agencies as well as collecting and evaluating data on volunteer effectiveness
  • Conducting site visits to new partner agencies and providing technical assistance for program development
  • Writing detailed descriptions of programs for publications
  • Assisting, as necessary, with organization-wide initiatives such as Annual Events and volunteer orientation

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience (two years' experience in non-profit management)
  • Superior and professional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to community service and volunteerism
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills, including an ability to manage and multi-task many projects and an acute eye for detail
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Experience working with volunteers and/or in customer service will be considered a plus
  • Flexible schedule, including the ability to work late evenings and weekends, as needed
  • Familiarity with the aging population and hospital based programming considered a plus
