GUGCS Intervention Teacher

Essential Functions


  • Teach targeted literacy and math intervention to small groups of students daily.
  • Review student achievement and assist with placing students in appropriate reading, writing, and math intervention plans
  • Collaborate with administrators and teachers to identify the needs of students, to set learning goals and targets, and to problem solve with teachers to develop best practices for continuous academic growth of students.
  • Meet with the classroom teacher to plan instruction that correlates with the individual student's needs.
  • Gather assessment data from classroom teachers in order to observe student progress grade wide.
  • Collaborate with the Intervention Coordinator to create professional coaching goals.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Implement GUGCS curricular programs (LitLife, and Teachers College) in addition to units written in-house
  • Attend professional development to enhance knowledge of pedagogy and content.
  • Maintain and submit accurate and up-to-date management records of all students' progress.
  • Maintain organized records of anecdotal notes and assessments.
  • Administer formal interim assessments and informal ongoing assessments, such as Fountas & Pinnell running records, conferencing, end-of-unit rubrics, student portfolios, etc.
  • Use data collected on assessments to modify unit plans, inform groupings, and to support student referrals
  • Participate in grade team and curricular planning meetings (as needed)
  • Establish and maintain ongoing positive relationships with families by creating letters about curriculum and progress.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
  • Usethe Responsive Classroom model for community-building and behavior management strategies
  • Actively participate in school community through weekly staff meetings, PD opportunities, staff committees, school events, etc.
  • Respond productively to ongoing, year-round professional feedback
  • Work closely with Special Education department (learning specialists, interventionists, service providers) to best support student learning
  • Use weekly lesson plans to help drive instruction in a clear manner
  • Demonstrate commitment to working with diverse populations of families and students, including those at-risk

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to Growing Up Green Charter School's mission and green theme
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team of teachers
  • Knowledge of Responsive Classroom
  • Experience in environmental education a plus
  • Experience with technology integration
  • Excellent organizational skills


  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred
  • At least two years classroom teaching experience in the elementary grades

Required Certificates & Licenses: Teaching certificate, NYC DOE/Fingerprinting & Background Clearance
