Friends Forever (www.friendsforeverusa.org) is offering 3 qualified youth workers contract positions leading a two-week peace program. Retreats will serve two groups of ten Jewish-Israeli and Arab-Israeli teens and one group of ten Catholic and Protestant Northern Irish teens and take place in the New Hampshire area. Each US Site Manager will work with one group of ten youth.
Qualified candidates will have experience in group and/or youth work (preferably with teens) and must be organized, flexible, patient, and devoted to fostering positive relations between cultures in conflict. Familiarity with the region is desired.
This position also handles the group's finances and drives the group to multiple locations in a 15-passenger van. Other responsibilities include schedule coordination, organizing meals & supplies, and ensuring that the group is prepared and on time for activities. This position reports to the Program Director, but will deal directly with program sponsors and volunteers as well as a direct partnership with the lead foreign youth workers from Israel or N. Ireland.
The ideal candidate will enthusiastically participate in outdoor activities such as day hiking, rock climbing, and high and low ropes courses. Applicants with CPR and lifesaving certification are desired (current First Aid/CPR certification is required at the start of the program).
The position is scheduled to run from August 8th-August 23rd. The Site Manager must be available for at least one day-long orientation meeting before the program period begins and one half-day meeting after it ends.
This is a live-in position for the entire two-week program that requires flexibility in personal space and accommodations. All reasonable expenses (admissions into group activities and room & board) are covered by Friends Forever.
Employees will receive a stipend of $1,500.00 upon successful completion of the two week contract and subsequent meeting(s).
4-year degree or equivalent experience required.
Additional Qualifications: Applicants must be able to represent themselves as a neutral party on the issues concerning Northern Ireland (Protestant/Catholics) and the Middle East (Israeli/Palestinian/Arab). Applicants must also have a clean driving record and must pass a thorough background screening for this position. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.
