New Jersey Needs You (NJNY) prepares low-income, first-generation college students (only 11% graduate nationwide) to realize their college and career potential by pairing them one-to-one with mentor coaches, providing assistance securing summer internships, and awarding professional development grants.

Our volunteer-driven, two-year Fellows Program began in the fall of 2012 with 25 high potential, first-generation college students, reflecting the ethnic diversity of New Jersey. NJNY is the first replication of the highly-successful New York Needs You (NYNY) Fellows Program and provides both Fellows and volunteers access to a growing, cross sector network of 1000+ accomplished professionals in the tri-state area.

The New Jersey Needs You (NJNY) Programs Team is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering curricula for 28 workshops per year for the Fellows Program. Additionally, the Programs Team provides case management support for 25 current Fellows and is responsible for recruitment of future Fellows. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for providing support to team members, specifically focusing on Fellow recruitment, data management, documenting programmatic policies and procedures, and program delivery. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, have strong written and verbal communication skills, will be highly-organized, and enjoy multi-tasking and team collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Support Fellow recruitment, including:

o Sending recruitment emails and materials to current and potential university partners
o Preparing for and participating in on-campus recruitment events in northern New Jersey
o Monitoring and responding to applicant questions via phone and/or email
o Monitoring incoming applications as well as phone, email and other inquiries from potential Fellows and/or volunteers as well as potential partners
o Leveraging social media to maximize NJNY's exposure to potential fellows and potential mentor coaches as well as to communicate with the NJNY network

  • Support NJNY staff during Saturday workshops, including:

o Assisting Program Director with workshop preparation such event logistics and planning
o On site set-up, breakdown, and event coordination
o Facilitating discussions with Fellows or volunteer Mentor Coaches
o Additional projects and duties as determined by supervisor(s)

  • Organizing and maintaining confidential Fellow and volunteer records
  • Assist in preparing documentation and external reports to multiple stakeholders including partners, donors, Board members, etc.
  • Simple data analysis, including tracking program participation trends and evaluating program results
  • Updating, revising, and implementing a NJNY Policy & Procedure Manual
  • Administrative duties including but not limited to office communications, file maintenance, copying/faxing, data entry, and related duties

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Social media content management experience (especially Facebook, Twitter, Linked In)
  • Able to multi-task and work independently
  • Seeks continuous improvement and feedback
  • Strong interest in and willingness to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
  • High level of energy and professional commitment
  • Microsoft Office proficiency; strong skills in PowerPoint, Excel preferred
  • Prior experience in teaching or facilitating group discussion plus
  • Experience with statistical and/or data analysis a plus
  • Experience and/or interest in using technology to improve process efficiency a plus
