Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) was founded in 1963 as one of the first nonprofit mentoring organizations for students of color in New York City. In 1980, SEO created the Career Program, which introduces the nation's most talented underrepresented undergraduates of color to summer internships in investment banking, sales & trading, investment research, asset management, corporate finance, accounting, transaction services, corporate law, information technology and nonprofit. Purpose

The Summer Program Coordinator is responsible for the supervision of the Corporate Law summer interns in the New York City area and the management of assigned program areas and projects as determined and supervised by the Managing Director and Assistant Director of the Career Program.

Responsibilities

Summer Program Coordinators will:

  • Supervise, counsel and support a cohort of SEO interns throughout their summer internship.
  • Attend designated firm seminars and perform necessary preparation and follow-up work associated with these seminars.
  • Model the values and principles that SEO expects of its interns and employees throughout the course of the summer.
  • Complete additional assignments as needed.
  • This position is flexible and is a part-time position.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum of a law degree from a regionally accredited college or university is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working within the corporate law environment is required (exception for SEO Law Alumni).
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and handle changing priorities is required.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills is required.
  • Ability and desire to motivate college students and to relate effectively within both educational and corporate cultures is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, clients, alumni, and SEO staff members is required.
  • Ability and willingness to work 1-2 nights a week during June and July is required.
  • Commitment to the mission of SEO is required.
  • Ideal candidate will be available from mid-May until August on a part-time basis (start and end dates are flexible).
