JEWISH HEALING AND HOSPICE CENTER OF LOS ANGELES
POSITION: Development Assistant REPORTS TO: Executive Director ORGANIZATION: The Jewish Healing and Hospice Center of Los Angeles, Inc. (JHCLA), was founded to provide compassionate care for those individuals and their families affected by serious illness and other life crises through a multi-faceted approach to healing, based on the wisdom of the Jewish tradition. We serve the entire community regardless of affiliation. We are an expansion of the first and longest continuous providers of Jewish hospice services in Los Angeles.
LOCATION: Los Angeles JOB PURPOSE: The Development Assistant will assist the organization's Executive Director with the planning and implementation of all the organization's activities. While this position starts out as part-time, there is the possibility to grow it to full-time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES • Bookkeeping (Quickbooks): receipts, payables, payroll, bank reconciliations, etc.
• Donor acknowledgments and other donor communication
• Donor database maintenance
• Client database maintenance, communication and billing
• Reception and phone as and when required
GRANT MANAGEMENT
• Research and complete grant applications
• Maintain grant calendar
• Prepare grant reports as needed
DEVELOPMENT • Assist the organization's Executive Director to implement the organization's annual development plan • Provide administrative and logistical support for annual direct mail campaign • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with donors and prospective donors
• Support the Executive Director's work developing fund raising materials and communications • Work with outside vendors to oversee production of development materials • Maintain and expand electronic and print media presence
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: • A record of professionalism, accountability and confidentiality • Highly organized, with attention to details and meticulous follow-through
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Proven, exemplary interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively • Skilled in office technology including Microsoft Office Suite (including mailmerge), databases, Quickbooks, and email • Flexible, able to meet changing work needs and demands • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree and three years' experience in non-profit organizations, finance or organizational development
• Bookkeeping experience highly preferred
• 1 – 2 years experience in donor relations highly preferred
• Some experience working in the Jewish community is helpful but not required

NORMAL WORKING HOURS • Expected 20-25 hours/week, generally Monday-Friday - flexible
• Jewish and general holidays given off
SALARY AND BENEFITS • This is a part time salaried position with no benefits
• Salary commensurate with experience
