Job Title: Development Consultant
Salary Range: $45.00 hour
Schedule: 8-16 hours a week, flexible hours
Location: San Rafael, California – a short commute from San Francisco or East Bay

Organizational Description: Alcohol Justice is a national alcohol industry watchdog based in San Rafael, California. We believe youth should grow up free of the alcohol industry's advertising, enticing products and easy access. We also organize locally, statewide and nationally to hold the alcohol industry accountable for harm. We re-branded ourselves 2 year ago with this name, and have had non-stop program successes for seven years that we wish to translate into a growing base of support.
Position Description:
The Development Consultant will identify and develop small to major donors for Alcohol Justice in Marin, San Francisco and the Bay Area in the coming year. Fundraising will be coordinated around:
1) an annual drive September to November 2013 (TBD);
2) an exciting alcohol recovery-related film event in 2014; and
3) small donations through regular appeals.
Major Donor Development and Annual Campaign
- Research and network in Marin County, San Francisco and Bay Area with potential individual/family donors and with interested organizations and corporations.
- Develop an outreach package, PowerPoint presentations for donor prospecting. Some intriguing Marin local resources are available for prospecting and advertising.
- With Executive Director and Board leaders put together a major donor plan for the year(s).
- Train volunteers and Board members to ask for donations and prepare events for fundraising as needed.
- This work can be assisted by ED, other staff, Board members and potential board members or volunteers motivated and organized by the consultant.
- Work closely with Executive Director who will take the lead on many personal relationships.
Film Event Fundraising:
- Coordinate and implement fundraising aspects of the film festival to be held likely in April 2014. Look for major and minor sponsors, and prepare ad book for event with other staff assistance. This festival will name Alcohol Justice as a prime sponsor and has a history of fundraising success in other cities.
Data Management and Email Appeals
- Manage database of potential and actual donors. Our database is CiviCRM, which may need some customization. Input donor names and data as needed.
- Manage thank you process and ticklers
- Plan and prepare an annual schedule of monthly to bi-monthly appeals to activist database to bring in first time donors.
Final thoughts: Working closely with the Executive Director, this is an excellent opportunity for a moderately experienced fundraiser to grow rapidly and achieve incremental success in numerous aspects of major donor fundraising.
