Position Title: Overnight Youth Counselor (Part-Time / Grave) - Home of Hope
Job Closing Date: Open Until Filled
WORK SCHEDULE: This position is part time and non-exempt, with awake shifts of Friday and Saturday nights from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.; a once-monthly Community Meeting/Staff Meeting from 6:45 p.m. -- 9:00 p.m. on the last Tuesday of every month; and an additional Staff Meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of every month 9:00 p.m. -- 10:00 p.m.
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the weekend Overnight Youth Counselor ensures the safety and well-being of up to twenty (20) young adults, ages 18-24, living at the Alhadeff Home of Hope, a Phase II transitional living program.
The Home of Hope is an independent living program. Participants are young adults experiencing independence while still being able to access services. They furnish and decorate their own apartments, shop and cook for themselves, pay the bills, and negotiate shared space and responsibilities with roommates.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Oversee weekend evening activity, including compliance with visitor regulations and program procedures. Monitor all program spaces; walk hallways every 30-45 minutes; conduct two (2) outside perimeter checks per shift. Overnight Youth Counselor must remain awake during entire shift (10:00pm-6:00am).
•Provide crisis intervention and counseling to clients in care. Support Clean and Sober housing model.
•Provide advocacy services, including informal counseling, and community referrals.
•Oversee the safety and cleanliness of the apartment building, including the laundry room, the community room, and adjoining deck. Perform light janitorial work, including vacuuming carpets; taking out trash; sweeping/mopping floors; and similar tasks. Compile maintenance requests and submit to Program Manager/Maintenance Staff as needed.
•Maintain accurate case files, log entries, and other necessary client records.
•Attend once-monthly community meetings (last Tuesday at 6:45pm) and help residents problem solve, share fun activities, and learn from each other. Encourage the residents to take leadership roles within the home and community.
•Attend the monthly Staff meetings (2nd Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. and last Tuesday of the month at 8:00 pm).
•Perform light maintenance on apartment vacancies, including spackling/painting walls; vacuuming/steam-cleaning carpets; packing and removal of abandoned furniture/belongings; and similar tasks.
•After appropriate training, administer Breathalyzer™ and urinalysis testing.
•Conduct group and/or individual workshops to address house maintenance and daily living life skills as needed.
•Supervise house and monitors residents' behavior and whereabouts in the house to ensure the safety of residents. At times may have to perform random apartment checks.
•Complete monthly rent determinations with residents; tracking and processing rent payments, deposits, miscellaneous fees; complete monthly reports; conducting internal file audits; posting current local housing advertisements.
•Organization and maintenance of in-program food bank and housewares closet.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIREMENTS:
•Experience working with at-risk youth and able and willing to work with young adults.
•Skilled in the use of behavior management strategies such as positive reinforcement & natural consequences.
•Ability to maintain professional boundaries with youth, while building trust and respect.
•Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
•Ability to perform simple data entry.
•Acceptance of a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, and cultural and spiritual practices.
•Reliable attendance and punctuality.
•Strong personal boundaries and ethics.
•Ability to pass a DSHS Criminal Background Check.
•Willingness to learn and perform light apartment maintenance and general housekeeping.
PREFERENCES:
•BA in related field preferred -- Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
•Knowledge and skill in basic apartment care and maintenance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
•Ability to perform moderate physical work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and 10 to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
•Ability to climb and descend stairs within a 60 second time frame, a minimum of 10 times a shift.
•Ability to vacuum, sweep and mop.

•Must have current negative TB test
•CPR / First Aid Certification
•Food Handler's Card
•HIV / AIDS Training (minimum 4 hours)
•When driving YouthCare vehicles, you must possess a valid WA State Drivers License and have taken Van Driver Certification Training or an approved Defensive Driving Course.
