DWM is seeking a Director for its Latin America private equity team who will join a growing number of finance professionals with a strong social mission and commitment to sustainable economic development. The Latin America Director will execute the firm's equity strategy for the region and lead the management and oversight of existing Latin American equity portfolio companies (10 companies in 5 countries) and the origination and execution of new client relationships and equity investments. The position is based at DWM's head office in Stamford, CT and will require travel.
The Director will report directly to the partner in charge of private equity investments and supervise other members of the Latin America private equity team.
Line responsibilities include:
- Originating and executing socially positive private equity investments throughout Latin America and building out a portfolio for DWM-managed investment vehicles designed to maximize social and financial impact in the region as well as profitability to the firm
- Providing oversight for existing Latin American equity portfolio companies (in some cases directly as a board director and in others through local consultants and board members)
- Developing and executing on an exit strategy for existing Latin American equity portfolio companies
- Originating, maintaining and expanding client relationships in Latin America
- Liaising with the risk, fund management, debt and capital markets teams on equity transactions involving Latin America
- Performing and/or supervising the performance of financial and legal due diligence, the preparation of term sheets, transaction reviews, investment memos, monitoring reports, transaction documents (subscription, shareholders agreement).
- Assisting in general marketing and fundraising, including for the next equity fund
- Planning and participating in regional marketing, origination and due diligence trips and attending conferences
- A director will be responsible for broader fund management responsibilities across the private equity group
Management responsibilities include:
- Assigning work to and supervising the work of the other members of the Latin America equity team
- Designing a professional development plan for these team members
- In coordination with the incumbent's manager, preparing annual performance reviews for the other Latin America equity team members and making salary, bonus and promotion recommendations
Candidate must possess the following background and skill sets:
- A college or graduate degree, ideally with a financial or business related concentration; MBA or equivalent is preferred
- A minimum of ten (10) years' relevant experience in increasingly responsible positions, in particular in private equity, investment banking or corporate finance, with a focus on transactions
- Deep familiarity with and strong knowledge of Latin America.
- Experience in microfinance or socially responsible investing is a plus
- Ability to conduct financial analysis on financial institutions in emerging markets
- Prior knowledge and experience in deal structuring
- Ability to represent the firm with potential and actual clients in private and public fora
- High motivation and attention to detail
- Solid organizational & time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including advanced MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Full written and spoken fluency in Spanish
- Extensive travel to the relevant countries will be required
- Proof of ability to work in the US
