The Bronx Defenders is seeking an Executive Assistant to Robin Steinberg, Founder and Executive Director of this groundbreaking public defender office. The Bronx Defenders has gained national and international recognition for advancing the Holistic Defense model – a client-centered, interdisciplinary approach to public defense that addresses not just the criminal case but the underlying causes and resulting consequences of criminal justice involvement. The Executive Assistant is primarily responsible for writing and research projects for the Executive Director. This position is ideal for a recent college graduate who is interested in learning about holistic public defense and criminal justice advocacy in a dynamic, community-based setting.

The Executive Assistant will work closely with the Executive Director to advance the mission of The Bronx Defenders. The Assistant will research, write, and edit articles, speeches, grants, press releases, marketing materials, and letters for the Executive Director. She/he will also assist with the Director's Holistic Defense Externship at Columbia Law School, site visits for the Center for Holistic Defense, the Annual Gala, and other fundraising and administrative tasks as needed. The Assistant should be an exceptional writer and researcher who is self-motivated and capable of working effectively with little supervision. A successful candidate is an excellent planner, superbly organized, flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient. She/he will also have opportunities to work with clients through community organizing, policy, and civic engagement projects.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and follow through on issues in a timely manner.
