JOB SUMMARY

The Individual Giving Officer is responsible for the generation of gifts from individuals and organizations in support of individual giving projects and building the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital's (GSCNC) endowment funds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop in concert with the Director of Development a documented plan to achieve individual giving goals.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects for major gifts and bequests for the purpose of supporting operations, building the endowment funds, and capital improvements.
  • With assistance of the Director of Development, President, the First Vice President, and the Chief Executive Officer, completes 150-200 (3-4 per week) personal visits per year with donors and prospects to develop a stronger bond to GSCNC.
  • Individually prepare appropriate staff and volunteers for each visit and generate timely and thorough follow-up correspondence and call reports.
  • Manage a comprehensive cultivation tracking system for all major and planned gift donors and prospects.
  • Participate in overall planning and execution of GSCNC major gift fundraising.
  • Establish an education and cultivation program for selected attorneys', trust officers, CPAs, CLUs, etc. to increase their knowledge of organization's mission and programs and of charitable gift planning options for their clients.
  • Identify ways to increase the cultivation and involvement of donors in corporation visits, meetings, and activities as appropriate.
  • Prepare proposals for gift opportunities in response to inquiries and/or cultivation of gifts.
  • Staff support to GSCNC endowment committee assuring the committee is involved in determining long-term strategies to assure Endowment Fund and Juliette Low Society growth.
  • Expand and manage Endowment/Planned Giving mail program including list maintenance and response to all replies.
  • Plan annual Juliette Low Society tea and other donor cultivation events.
  • Assist staff and volunteers in development of their short and long-term strategies to build their branch endowment program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

  1. 1. To plan, organize, and implement the individual giving programs including:
    1. Developing relationships with the major gift donors and prospects.
    2. Discover and publicize giving opportunities for special projects.
    3. Personally soliciting and closing major and planned gifts with donors.
  1. 2. To plan, organize, and implement the planned giving program including:
    1. Developing a schedule of educational events for membership, donors, and area financial professionals.
    2. Nurturing relationships with planned giving donors and prospects.
    3. Calculating and presenting planned gift proposals.
    4. Personally soliciting planned gifts.
    5. Creating planned giving articles for GSCNC publications.
  1. 3. To assist with endowment campaigns as requested including:
    1. Planning the lead gift phases.
    2. Identifying and assessing major gift prospects.
    3. Assisting in case development.
    4. Furthering relationships with donors and prospects.
  1. 4. To make public appearances and presentations before groups and organizations concerning GSCNC.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree or equivalent in commerce, marketing, administration or related areas
  • Minimum four years experience in fundraising.
  • Demonstrated experience in Major Gift/Planned Giving fundraising.
  • Previous experience with volunteer boards and committees is essential.
  • CFRE designation would be considered an asset.
  • Expertise in planning and documenting deferred gifts.
  • Understanding of charitable tax legislation and other pertinent regulations/legislation.
