Job description

SUMMARY: Works closely with Director of Development in developing and implementing the Grant Writing Process. In addition, works closely with Director of Development to implement other fundraising initiatives, public relations, marketing, special events and board development. The primary responsibilities of this position are to write new and renewal grant proposals, identify potential funders, and cultivate funder relationships with private, public and corporate funding sources. This position also coordinates strategic communications including the newsletter, website and other tools, andperforms tasks related to special events and board development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES--

1 Grant writing (Corporate and Foundation) (60%)

a Writes grant proposals to solicit funds from foundations & corporations

b Conducts prospect research to identify potential government and private foundations

c Works with departments to determine budget needs

d Prepares and completes reports to funders

e Maintains files of correspondence with funders

f Follows up with funders and coordinates funder site visits

g Creates and maintains a yearly calendar and spreadsheet for grants and reports

h Works with Director of Development in annual strategic planning for fundraising

i Researches businesses and partnership possibilities, including info about their giving capacity, interest, and methods

j Assist other program Directors in their own grant writing efforts

2 Marketing and Public Relations (25%)

a Manages "Constant Contact" (e-newsletter) account, including contact lists, billing account, email and image library

b Recruits, interviews and supervises interns or volunteers

c Maintains up-to-date website content information

d Works with Director of Development in annual strategic planning for marketing and public relations

3 Board Development (5%)

a Serves as staff liaison to Howard Area's Young Professionals Board

4 Special Events (10%)

a Assists Director of Development in organizing agency fundraising special events

b Attends gala planning meetings and records minutes

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education -Bachelor's degree
  • Experience - Previous Grant Writing experience (minimum 1 year of proven record of writing, submitting, and receiving funding for grants). A minimum of two years non-profit fund development experience, familiarity with donor database software (SalesForce, Raisers Edge or other donor database), and close attention to detail are required.
  • Experience with creative design software such as Photoshop or Adobe Creative Suite is preferred; as is the ability to create and maintain social media sites (e.g. Facebook).
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications and public relations activities.
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, and organizational skills. Demonstrated successful experience writing press releases, making presentations and negotiating with media.
  • Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications.
  • Computer literacy in word processing, data base management and page layout.
