Safe Space believes that all children deserve to grow up healthy and safe, and we work to ensure this through early intervention. Each year, Safe Space works with over 10,000 of New York City's most disadvantaged children and families to prevent foster care placement, support and strengthen families and promote self-sufficiency.

The MSA Program under the Community Health division is looking for an individual to work as a Group Facilitator that can provide community outreach in Far Rockaway and the areas surrounding Jamaica, Queens to recruit participants and new sites for HIV and Pregnancy Prevention Groups as well as facilitate groups and make referrals for health related issues and concerns. This is a part-time position (7-10 hours per week) to facilitate HIV prevention groups, connect with community organizations to recruit participants for groups and other agency services; street outreach; distribution of condoms and safe sex materials; speak about the teen pregnancy at community health fairs and related events; prepare weekly and monthly reports.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the division Director, the CAPP Facilitator will be responsible for:

  • Facilitating HIV and pregnancy prevention groups for youth and young adults
  • Attend and facilitate community meetings in Far Rockaway
  • Provide individual health education and risk reduction counseling to program clients
  • Connect with other organizations to recruit participants for groups and other agency services
  • Distribute condoms and safe sex information
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client files and documents as well as submit weekly and monthly reports

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma/GED; BA Degree preferred preferably in a related field (psychology, social work, sociology)
  • Group facilitation experience
  • Basic HIV/AIDS and STIs knowledge; experience with at risk population preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish/English
  • Non-judgmental approach and ability to empathize with others; Genuine interest in working with disenfranchised individuals; Self-motivation skills and the ability to work collaboratively
  • Dynamic energy, able to multi-task and negotiate multiple demands on attention
  • Experience working with families in a community setting, group facilitation and working with adolescents
