Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano Community Partnerships Coordinator
Breakthrough is an organization that provides low-income, minority, first-generation students with the support they need to get on the track for college success. While 1 in 2 high-income students graduate from college, only 1 in 7 of their low-income peers can say the same. In fact, low-income students with above average test scores are less likely to graduate college than more affluent students with lower scores. In the Orange County region, only 27% of Latino students graduate with the minimum requirements to apply to a California State University. Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano sets out to change this. Through academically rigorous after-school and summer programs we increase opportunities for low-income students to succeed on the path to college. As we grow and realign to amplify impact, the importance of building smart partnerships with local high schools, regional colleges, mission-aligned organizations, and a stable base of community donors cannot be overstated. This VISTA position will help ensure expanded and enduring community investment in Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano.
