Lenox Hill Neighborhood House is the oldest and largest social services and educational organization on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Operating out of multiple East Side sites, we are a vibrant community organization and serve 20,000 people in need each year who live, work or go to school on Manhattan's East Side and on Roosevelt Island. Our constituents include older adults, homeless and formerly homeless adults, children and families, recent immigrants, disabled persons and thousands more who make up New York City's wonderful mosaic. We have a 120-year history rich in community activism and innovation, addressing systemic problems such as the lack of affordable housing, the needs of an aging population and the inadequacies of the public education system.
Founded in 1894 as a free kindergarten for the children of nearby immigrant factory workers, we remain dedicated to improving the quality of life for all individuals and families in need in our community.
The Neighborhood House is looking for an experienced Early Childhood professional to serve as a Head Teacher in a "threes" classroom. The candidate will work as part of a teaching team, including one full-time Assistant Teacher and a Family Worker. The classroom serves up to 17 children. We are an inclusive program and receive additional support from SEITS, PT, OT, speech therapists, etc. as needed.
-must hold NYS teacher certification (provisional/initial or permanent)
-either hold a M.A./M.Ed in Education or be in pursuit of a masters
-bi-lingual Spanish a plus
-must have experience as a Head Teacher of younger children (ages 2-4)
-possess a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the developmental stages of young children and the ability to plan lessons and activities that reflect that knowledge and understanding
- demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, innovation and creativity
-possess a genuine liking and warmth for young children
-demonstrate understanding of the overall needs of young children, as well as the ability to effectively impart knowledge in the area of early childhood education and child development
-ability to relate to staff, parents, and children in a positive and constructive manner
-possess patience and tolerance
-present a positive self-image and attitude that can be fostered in young children.
-receptive to new ideas and has the desire and motivation to continually seek and share new information on improving the quality of early childhood education and child development
-possess demonstrated responsibility and leadership qualities and the ability to make decisions reflecting sound judgment
-service-oriented and committed to excellence and quality in early childhood education.
