The Medical Assistant Training Program is a new joint program of Briya Public Charter School and Mary's Center for Maternal and Child Care, Inc. Students will complete clinical rotations and their externship at various Mary's Center clinical sites. The program will open in Fall 2013 with 10-15 students as part of the pilot year. This position is available on a part-time or full-time basis. An ideal candidate would be available for program coordination, curriculum development, and classroom instruction. Candidates who can fulfill only one of these primary roles may be considered for part-time employment.

Medical Assistant Program Coordinator Functions: The Medical Assistant Program Coordinator will be responsible for academic, programmatic, and administrative coordination of the new Medical Assistant Training Program.
- Manage the accreditation application process. Track and evaluate Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)accreditation annual report thresholds, including: retention, job placement, graduate satisfaction, employer satisfaction, and student certification.
- Facilitate curriculum development. Ensure curriculum follows accreditation guidelines set by the CAAHEP. Revise core curriculum plan in accordance with Mary's Center identified needs and accreditation guidelines.
- Develop lesson plans for medical assistant modules, including: communications, community health, anatomy & physiology, safety practices, health promotion, disease, basic math, medications, infection control, lab medicine, medical business practices, and medical law and ethics.
- Serve as liaison between Briya and Mary's Center staff. Identify and select key program instructors/guest speakers.
- Register students for the program. Facilitate testing and interview process. Manage student selection process. Maintain student retention through academic counseling and connection to student social services, as needed.
- Ensure classroom materials and equipment are provided. Ensure safety and sanitation of all labs, equipment and supplies.
- Provide support and supervision to Medical Assistant Instructors.
- Lead master competency skills review sessions.
- Collect student evaluation data.
- Organize the CMA exam review course, for students and current Mary's Center medical assistant staff.
Medical Assistant Instructor Functions: The Medical Assistant Instructor will be responsible for providing instruction to Briya students through well-prepared classes, appropriate assignments, evaluation and documentation of student progress, and supporting students' academic success. The Instructor will be involved in curriculum development, revision, and lesson planning. Classroom activities will be designed following principles of popular education, and prepare students to be successful in passing the Certified Medical Assistant exam. Instructors will be hired to teach entire five- week modules or individual lesson plans, depending on their skill sets and availability.
- Provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations and timelines through carefully written topical outlines and approved, standardized syllabus. Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus.
- Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities. Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs.
- Suitably challenge, engage, serve and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect.
- Ensure consistent student attendance and report repeat absences to Medical Assistant Program Coordinator.
- Review and score student homework assignments. Administer weekly quizzes with questions designed in the format of the CMA exam. Prepare and administer final module exam or contribute questions from individual lesson plans to be included in final exam.
- Provide regular updates to students on their progress. Develop individualized learning plans for students who need remedial academic support.
- Complete and submit grades, competency skills checklists, and final exam scores to the Medical Assistant Program Coordinator in a timely manner.

Medical Assistant Program Coordinator/Instructor Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, or associates degree and relevant work experience
- Preference given for current professional CMA (Certified Medical Assistant)/RMA (Registered Medical Assistant), LPN, LVN, RN, MD, or DO licensure
- Demonstrated ability to teach in ways that are interactive, project-based, and promote self-discovery and critical thinking
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work as a member of a team
- Commitment to develop and contribute to a community of educators
- 3-5 years of related practical work/clinical experience, preferably in a community health care center
- Ability to teach classes in English, with preference for instructors who also have Spanish language skills in order to support students
- Superior knowledge in key medical assistant subject areas, including: communications, community health, anatomy & physiology, safety practices, health promotion, disease, basic math, medications, infection control, lab medicine, medical business practices, and medical law and ethics
- Must be knowledgeable in course content, as evidenced by education and/or experience, effective in directing and evaluating student learning and laboratory performance, and be prepared in education theory and techniques
- Prior experience training Medical Assistants or other medical staff
- Two years of work experience as a Medical Assistant or another clinical role
- Knowledge of healthcare industry and awareness of trends
- Strong organizational skills
- Expertise in interpersonal and oral presentation/written communication skills
