About the Organization:

Opened in 2008, and recently re-authorized by the state, Community Charter School of Paterson (CCSP) is a full-service community charter school serving 900 students in grades K-8 and located in the historic district of Paterson, New Jersey. Our school was founded in close partnership with New Jersey Community Development Corporation, one of New Jersey's leading community development organizations, with the firm belief that education is an essential component of overall community transformation.

Our model aims to bring the rigorous instructional practices and well-developed systems of high performing charter schools to the community school context, where a wide range of resources, services and partnerships can be leveraged to provide comprehensive support to students and families.

About the Opportunity:

CCSP seeks an experienced, transformational education leader who will set the vision for academic and organizational excellence, build the teams and structures necessary to transform practice and significantly move the needle on student achievement.

With active partners in CCSP's Board of Trustees, and tremendous community resources to leverage, the CEO will be highly supported and empowered to drive organizational change in support of student outcomes. Through collaboration with and direct management of the leadership team, including a Chief Operating Officer, Chief Academic Officer and Director of Community Schools, the CEO will ensure that CCSP delivers on its promise to provide the students and families of Paterson with the highest quality education possible.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Drive student academic achievement by elevating standards mastery at every level of decision making
  • Partner closely with the CAO in review of data and instructional practices to ensure campuses are on track to meet student performance targets
  • Fully articulate the organizational vision which incorporates the mission and model with existing and industry best practices
  • Design and oversee the execution of an organization wide strategic plan and priorities which ensures performance outcomes are met
  • In collaboration with the leadership team, design and continuously improve systems and structures to support a data-driven, results-oriented student and staff culture
  • Through outstanding management practices, inspire and invest the whole school community around CCSP's vision and mission
  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive talent strategic plan, including recruitment, selection, onboarding, development, performance management and retention


  • Directly manage the Chief Academic Officer, Chief Operating Officer and the Director of Community Schools with bottom line responsibility for both academic performance and fiscal strength
  • Ensure that all community based programming operates consistently within the mission and values of the school including a focus on academic success


  • Engage Board of Trustees as active thought partners and resources to collaboratively drive toward organizational outcomes and academic achievement
  • Provide recommendations to Board on short and long term plans, policy changes and overall trends in education that would benefit the organization
  • Ensure Board has all necessary information (data, options, reports) to make informed decisions on matters requiring Board action
  • In partnership with the COO, ensures school is compliant with all applicable laws and regulations

External Relations:

  • Oversee and support the Director of Community Schools in collaborating with community partners and leverage community resources to achieve organizational goals and to maximize support for students
  • Serve as the external spokesperson for the organization and represent CCSP in community and school sponsored activities, events and projects
  • Actively engage and invest community stakeholders through interpreting achievement programs and services, and sharing strategic priorities, events and activities of interest


  • Deep commitment to and/or extensive experience serving under-resourced students and families
  • Intimate knowledge of strong academic and operational practices associated with high-performing charter schools
  • Alignment with organizational mission and philosophy that the community school model is an important component in overall community transformation
  • Strong vision setting and strategic planning skills, coupled with a demonstrated ability to articulate a coherent vision and develop an organization-wide strategy for program excellence
  • Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to attract, support and inspire teams to exceptional results
  • Demonstrated understanding of the intricacies of school operations and planning including, directing, reporting, and budgeting
  • Demonstrated track record of creating a high performing/ high achieving student and adult culture
  • Prior experience in a high-performing charter school strongly preferred
  • Prior experience as a teacher or Principal is preferred
  • Required criminal history background check, proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status, and required NJ residency within 12 months of starting
