Based in New York City, with offices throughout the United States and worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance works with people whose livelihoods depend on the land, helping them transform the way they grow food, harvest wood and host travelers.

Position Summary:

The Director of Compensation, Benefits & HRIS will be responsible for the strategic design and oversight of the Rainforest Alliance's global compensation and benefits programs. In addition, this position is responsible for ensuring a world-class technological and procedural framework to support the organization's needs for reliable and accessible employee information. The candidate must possess a high degree of strategic thinking, project management/execution, analytical skills, and solution-minded global thinking. S/he will ensure organization-wide compensation and benefit strategies that balance global consistency with local markets and requirements.

Responsibilities:

Compensation & Benefits

  • Monitor the effectiveness of global compensation and benefits structure, guidelines and procedures; recommend and (as approved) implement changes/updates which are cost effective and consistent with compensation trends and organizational objectives;
  • Lead the development and oversight of annual salary review process, including tools, communications, timing, and implementation through HR Generalists (HRGs) and local HR Representatives; and
  • Ensure periodic benchmarking of compensation and benefits offerings to maintain ongoing compliance with applicable requirements and positioning consistent with organizational philosophy.

HRIS

  • Lead the design and oversight of well-structured systems platform for managing employee information; and
  • Provide improvements and enhancements to continuously upgrade the accessibility, reliability, usefulness, and timeliness of employee information to managers and staff (as appropriate).

Policies & Procedures

  • Develop and maintain streamlined, effective, and customer-focused procedures which make the best use of available technology and are clearly documented and communicated;
  • Ensure quality control of all HR systems (HRIS, forms, data tracking, filing system, etc.) through both well-designed procedures and periodic audits/improvements;
  • Develop communication tools to enhance understanding of the organization's benefits packages including information about benefit changes that impact them; and
  • Establish effective communications and administration of compensation & benefits administration through trained HRGs and local HR Representatives and efficient tools/processes.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • The position directly supervises the Manager, Global Benefits and Compensation. In addition, the position coordinates closely on execution with three HR Generalists on varying levels, as well as ten field HR staff at key office locations worldwide; and
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance or related field; Master's degree a plus;
  • Benefits and/or Compensation certification a plus
  • Minimum 10 years combined experience in salary and benefits plan design, and HRIS design/implementation, including experience in multinational organization(s);
  • Exceptional managerial skills and ability to lead by example;
  • Strong leadership, strategic, and communications (interpersonal and writing) skills;
  • Outstanding ability to effectively interact with managers, supervisors and staff;
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time to major domestic and international operating locations;
  • Strong computer literacy (MS Office and HRIS systems), preferably ADP; and
  • Spanish proficiency strongly preferred.
