Bastyr University is on the frontlines of integrative, complementary and alternative medicine research. Our Research department's activities include faculty research projects, student research training, collaborative research with conventional agencies and natural products industries, and research studies funded by federal grants.

The following are the key activities for this position:

  • Design, implement, and maintain database programs and procedures to manage laboratory and clinical research data. Manage data interfacing between different platforms.
  • Maintain and update data management policies, standard operating procedures, data coding and data entry procedures and codebooks, subject confidentiality procedures and policies.
  • Assist investigators with protocol and case report form (CRF) development as well as development and implementation of data analysis plans and archival procedures.
  • Manage data entry and verification production. Includes overseeing training, reviews, coding, and prioritization, ensuring data integrity, consistent tracking and report generation for management.
  • Provide statistical consultation to investigators. Assist biostatistician(s) in statistical analysis including, but not limited to: report generation, compilation of descriptive statistics, correlations and bivariate comparisons.
  • Assist in selection, installation, implementation, and maintenance of computer software and hardware.

Qualifications:

  • Two or more years' experience with creation and maintenance of databases and administration in SQL Server 2005+, along with at least one year's experience creating databases in Microsoft Access. One year experience moving data between a variety of sources and formats including Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to write complex databases including conceptualization and implementation; user-friendly interfaces and clear reports.
  • Competent knowledge of SPSS, REDCap, GraphPad, and familiarity with other statistical packages (e.g. SAS, STATA 7); prefer familiarity with research practices and statistical theory, and ability to understand and clearly present statistical analysis results.
  • Familiarity with clinical trials research. Knowledge of data coding programs (WHOART, COSTART, ICD-10); good knowledge of clinical data management practices. Must understand and adhere to federal and state confidentiality laws and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and time management skills.
  • Medical scientific vocabulary and experience in a clinic or health care environment preferred; familiarity with alternative medicine desirable, though not required.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
