Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, widely recognized as one of New York's premier human services providers, is a 119-year-old settlement house that provides an extensive array of effective and integrated services--social, educational, legal, health, housing, mental health, nutritional and fitness--which significantly improve the lives of 20,000 people in need each year, ages 3 to 103, on the East Side of Manhattan. Our clients include older adults, homeless and formerly homeless adults, children and families, recent immigrants, disabled persons, adult learners and more. We are seeking an Assistant Director for Programs to help carry out our vision for two wonderful senior centers: the Senior Center at Saint Peter's Church, located at Lexington Avenue and 54th Street, and the Center @ Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, one of the City's first Innovative Senior Centers, located at 70th Street and 1st Avenue. Both senior centers provide meals and host an expansive array of programming that attracts over 500 members with diverse backgrounds and abilities (from the very active to the very frail) each day, 365 days a year, —8 a.m. to 8 p.m.—while providing invaluable public health, case management, fitness and aquatics, health and wellness, arts and culture, education and socialization activities.
The Assistant Director for Programs will be a key member of the senior center management team and will share responsibility for delivering top quality programming for our members. S/he will: identify new programming needs; reach out to partners and providers to develop new programs; oversee program implementation; complete reports to internal and external sources on program activities; and work directly with clients. The Assistant Director for Programs will work closely with Lenox Hill Neighborhood House staff from a number of departments and disciplines as well as staff from other local senior service providers in the community. Additionally, the Assistant Director for Programs will work closely with our network of volunteers at both senior centers and will be instrumental in coordinating volunteer schedules, training, and other aspects of their experiences as needed.
The Assistant Director for Programs should have extraordinary interpersonal skills and enjoy working with clients. S/he should have experience working with older adults and be experienced with the unique needs of this population. S/he should have a combination of supervisory, managerial, administrative and direct service skills and a commitment to working with seniors to improve their quality of life. S/he must have great communication and teambuilding skills, a collaborative nature and experience in a not-for-profit setting. Any candidate must be willing and able to work a nontraditional, flexible schedule, which will include weekends and some holidays. All candidates must have a Masters Degree in a relevant field (such as social work, public health, public administration) as well as applicable work experience.
