Job Title: Program Coordinator - Sports and Recreation Program: Summer Program

Average Schedule: 6 weeks; July 1st- August 9th; 8:00am-5:00pm or 9:00-6:00pm

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Part-time, Seasonal Salary Range: $10.00-$14.00 p/ hour

TYPICAL DAY IN THE LIFE

Program Coordinator (Physical-Fitness and Recreation)

The (Recreation) Program Coordinator participates in developing, implementing, supervising and evaluating an ongoing physical fitness and recreation program that meets the needs and interests of our members. The candidate will empower our members, ages 6-13 to create a world-class recreation program modeled after best practices in the field that promote and enhances member success in and out of the classroom. The candidate will ensure that all fitness programs and equipment operate within required risk management procedures and oversee the implementation of safety standards. His/ her work is performed under the general direction of The Physical Director who establishes policy and general directives; however, considerable independent judgment and initiative is exercised in carrying out assignments.

  • Oversee daily operations of the fitness and recreation programming and gym facilities members ages 6-13.
  • Develop, coordinate, and evaluate dynamic, creative and educationally sound programming, including but not limited: instructional programs, competitions, group classes, personal training, and assessments.
  • Seek out appropriate partnerships and collaborative opportunities with similar organizations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of program curriculum and weekly lesson plans.
  • Work independently and be responsible for overseeing activities at designated locations, both internal (clubhouse program spaces) and external (parks, school facilities, and baseball/softball fields).
  • Address behavior management concerns and issues that occur with members as a "first line" before members head to the department director.
  • Evaluate components of a comprehensive physical fitness and recreation program and initiate

program changes to meet established needs.

  • Organize fitness clinics, wellness seminars and sports competitions as indicated.
  • Assist in training, supervising, directing and evaluating seasonal staff, volunteers and members, ensuring consistent ratio and supervision.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE

Post-secondary training or college credits; or one- two years related experience in health, wellness, and fitness programming in a non-profit, collegiate, community, or private environment and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; Junior level or higher preferred; Considerable knowledge of safety, recreation, physical education, sports management, exercise physiology or physical therapy subject matter; Demonstrated organizational/ leadership ability; Experience in planning, designing and administering group and individual lessons / events; Demonstrated knowledge of theories and practices in promoting student development and learning; First Aid and CPR Certification ideal.
