Environment America Fellowship: Executive Assistant
We all want clean air, clean water and open spaces. But it takes independent research and tough-minded advocacy to win concrete results for our environment, especially when powerful interests stand in the way of environmental progress. Environment America's staff and members work to protect the places we love, advance the environmental values we share, and win real results for our environment. Environment America is tackling today's critical environmental issues including global warming and protecting our waterways.
Environment America is looking for a sharp, political, ambitious, and detail-oriented candidate to join our central team as the Executive Assistant. The Executive Assistant works directly with the Executive Director, and closely with the organization's regional directors, national program staff, development director and state directors to set annual goals, track organizational progress and program development across the country and to coordinate communication and information sharing. As a member of the leadership team, the Executive Assistant has input into decision making and the long term organizational direction of Environment America. The Executive Assistant will participate in Environment America's fellowship program including training, mentorship, and opportunities for advancement after completing two years on staff.
Key responsibilities will include:
Building the Organization. The Executive Assistant will be part of the team that moves Environment America toward a stronger field presence in districts across the nation by building strong state and federal infrastructure by ensuring that each state environment group has developed a meaningful three-year, annual, trimester and monthly plan and providing regular reports on progress toward goals.
Database Management: A critical piece of providing these reports is maintaining our organizational tracking database. The Executive Assistant will update content, troubleshoot problems, train staff on how to use the database, and ensure timely and accurate reporting by all staff.
Scheduling and Event Planning. The Executive Assistant will manage the Executive Director's schedule, bring together senior staff on regular conference calls, meetings and retreats; plan, organize, and prepare materials for trainings, meetings, and retreats throughout the year; and generally keep the organizational "train" on the tracks and running on time.
We are looking for a passionate and motivated college graduate to fill this role. Candidates must have experience with environmental organizing, including internships or involvement with campus environmental groups and a track record of successfully working as a member of a team. S/he must be detail oriented, good with numbers and computers, and a competent writer. The ideal executive assistant would care deeply about issues we're working on like global warming, fracking and clean water, but would be equally passionate about building a strong and enduring institution to help us protect the environment for the long term
