Job description

Wildlife Habitat Council is seeking a qualified individual for the full-time position of Director of Communications at its Silver Spring, MD headquarters.

The Director of Communications Director is a senior-level position responsible for planning, implementing and tracking all aspects of communications both internal and external. The Director of Communications reports to the President and will supervise the Communications Manager and a cross-departmental Communications Working Group. The qualified candidate will have demonstrated experience in all areas of traditional marketing communications practices and contemporary digital media, social media and content marketing strategies.

Job responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of the position include:

• Work with WHC President to establish an annual plan and budget for communications;
• Work with WHC senior staff to identify communications priorities and emerging communications opportunities;
• Work with WHC staff to refine and implement a cohesive message across the entire organization;
• Establish internal support to serve the communications, graphics and marketing needs of the organization;
• Work with WHC President and senior staff to develop new partnerships with companies and conservation organizations to promote WHC's programs and mission;
• Direct and oversee all aspects of WHC's web, social media and content strategies;
• Oversee publicity and media relations efforts and proactively pursue placement of stories about WHC.
• Work with WHC President to establish an effective internal communications plan to support forthcoming organizational changes.

Qualifications and requirements:

A qualified candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• A minimum of seven years communication management experience in roles with increasing staff and budget responsibilities;
• Superior writing and editing skills with high levels of proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, presentation and graphic design software;
• Knowledge of the creative, design and production process including print and digital media;
• Complete engagement with social media and demonstrable success in building social media audiences;
• Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to build and inspire teams and individuals.
