Emma Willard School believes that a 21st century woman must understand the importance of other cultures and languages and be sensitive to her place in our ever more globalized world. Mastering another language stimulates cognitive development differently than other disciplines and inspires a lifelong love of language and literature. To support this, we are seeking a dynamic and deeply committed Spanish teacher to join our Language Department for the 2017-2018 school year. S/he will teach a total of four sections from levels I, II, III or AP and collaborate regularly with other teachers of all levels. The ideal candidate would possess at least 3 years teaching experience in Spanish and hold at least a bachelor's degree in Spanish or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred. In addition, the candidate must have studied Latin American or Spanish literature and must have a native or near native fluency in the language. The candidate will work closely with the other Spanish teachers to ensure an integrated and cohesive curriculum while being encouraged to use creative and innovative teaching practices. This person will demonstrate a commitment to bringing out the absolute best in each student, open collaboration with colleagues, and meaningful professional development. As a boarding school, all teachers also contribute to the overall life of the school. These responsibilities will include help with dorm life (though not live on the dorm) and some combination of work with student sports and/or clubs as part of this person's service to the school.
