Job description

JFS is seeking an experienced grant writer to assist in securing grant funding in support of our programs, mission and goals.
Responsibilities include:

  • Write, edit and format grant applications, independently and in collaboration with program managers.
  • Assist Director of Grant Development in the planning, preparation, organization and execution of government grant proposals and applications, including attending bidder's conferences, outlining grant narratives and communicating with program staff to get needed information
  • Research possible funders with good understanding of JFS programs and priorities to identify good match with JFS mission. Research grants and human service related topics on the Internet to build need statement.
  • Develop grant proposals to smaller foundations for specific program areas; assist the Family Foundation specialist in the Resource Development Department with family foundation proposals, as needed.
  • Follow up reporting, including gathering information from program managers, editing reports submitted by program managers, and communicating with funders when issues arise around these reports.
  • Assist with the integration of grant development processes and fundraising efforts to meet agency-wide resource development objectives.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years' professional grant writing experience including government grant experience. Previous experience in the non-profit sector and an interest in the field of human services preferred. Candidate must possess the following qualifications: Clear and concise writing, editing and organizational skills and ability to manage several complex writing and research projects simultaneously and adhere to all applicable deadlines; ability to communicate well with other staff to clarify needs and provide clear direction, ability to communicate well with foundation program officers and grantmaker representatives; ability to work with a multicultural staff in a culturally sensitive, non-judgmental manner, to foster positive outcomes, work as part of a team and maintain professional boundaries; flexible and able to set priorities and shift priorities as necessary.
