General Statement of Duties:
Supervises the daily activities of children. Assists foster parents with completing tasks related to children.
Distinguished Features of the Class:
Responsible for the safety and custody of children. The duties require dealing with children, which may have emotional/behavioral challenges and the employee is expected to handle all situations in a calm and effective manner.
The Respite Worker will perform various tasks including but not limited to obtaining factual information about the family situation/environment, directly assisting/supporting families (e.g., transporting to locations, home visits, supervising children, implementation of goals, and participating in team conferences).
Illustrative Examples of Work:
Instructs/supervises children in accordance with agency policy, regulations, and New York State Discipline Law.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to understand and follow the laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to the care and safety of children.
Ability to keep records and conduct oral and written reports.
Some knowledge of various methods of dealing with children's behavior, family units, and NYS Policy of Discipline.
Desireable Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree and experience working with children is preferred
