Staten Island Youth Organizer (Full Time)

MRNY is seeking a Youth Organizer (full time) to build MRNY's base of youth leaders in Staten Island and engage young people in bringing attention to youth issues at the City, State and Federal level. This is a new initiative launching this fall at our Port Richmond, Staten Island office.

The position would be ideal for a young, energetic and experienced organizer with a background related to education, social justice, community organizing and public relations. The candidate will work within the Youth Power Project (YPP) to build a strong base, nurture the leadership of our members, help launch a new program for youth in our Staten Island office and advance city-wide and state-wide campaigns. Additionally, the candidate will represent Make the Road New York at coalition partner tables.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build a membership base of youth in Staten Island from the ground up

  • Engage multiple stakeholders involved on issues including youth leaders, elected officials, law enforcement officers, funders and organizational leaders in the social justice/immigration field

  • Coordinate and engage in public campaigns designed to mobilize people around issues of education reform and proposed City and State legislation
  • Create and facilitate leadership development curriculum and materials
  • Identifying and nurturing youth of color as grassroots leaders in Staten Island
  • Work with MRNY's YPP team, key member leaders and allies to move forward city-wide and state-wide campaigns
  • Support MRNY's organizational wide events throughout the year


The successful candidate must have 2-5 years demonstrated experience working with youth, preferable in an organizing or youth development setting; a commitment to social justice and youth leadership; a Bachelor's Degree (preferred); strong interpersonal and communications skills; and be open to working some evenings and weekends. The position will be based out of MRNY's, Port Richmond, Staten Island office and will coordinate with a team of youth organizers in Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island. The organizer must be ready to work with and engage young people in the Staten Island communities and in public high school classrooms. Ability to speak Spanish is a must.

We are looking for a creative thinker who has the ability to develop specific project goals, implement new strategies and use social media communications to advance our campaigns.
