Position Summary
Teach For America - Phoenix seeks to hire a Director of Latino Community Partnerships in order to ensure that we are partnering effectively with all groups working toward our shared vision of educational opportunity for all children in Arizona. This individual will be responsible for building local alliances and partnerships within the community, effectively and compellingly representing Teach For America with those groups, and developing and executing strategies to build stronger relationships with key leaders and constituents in the communities that we serve. The director will also play an important role in driving our local recruitment strategy to ensure we have a diverse corps that is representative of the communities in which we work and supporting our current corps members of color in effectively engaging with the community to develop their individual leadership. This position will report to the Managing Director of Strategy, Talent and Operations, as t his person will be responsible for working across all teams in the region.

Team Overview
Teach For America Phoenix is making an impact on nearly 25,000 Arizona students across 13 school districts teaching in over 80 public and charter schools valley-wide. At the same time, our more than 600 alumni currently living in Arizona are part of a growing movement centered on education reform in Arizona. The Phoenix regional team is made up of 29 dedicated staff members, three of whom make up our alumni team.

Responsibilities
Community Engagement and Cultivation

  • Manage a portfolio of key community leaders and constituent relationships with the end goal of building a stronger awareness and increased partnership between the community and Teach For America
  • Identify key issues through group dialogues with corps members, alumni and community members; develop strategies and engagement plans based on these dialogues
  • Assess the opportunity to maximize our efforts by establishing formal or informal partnerships with civic leaders and other community organizations (non-profits, institutions of higher education, churches, etc.)
  • Attend neighborhood and community group meetings to understand the values, priorities, and needs of our families and residents in the neighborhoods where our corps members teach

Recruitment and Matriculation

  • Develop and execute a strategy to increase the diversity of our incoming corps in Phoenix by partnering with recruitment team members both in Arizona and across the country
  • Organize Latino recruitment events to increase the number of Latino applicants to the corps
  • Work with community members, alumni and corps members to support the execution of a regional strategy to diversify the corps
  • Work with the public partnerships team to increase the number of accepted Latino applicants who confirm to join the Phoenix corps

Corps Member Support

  • Develop and execute a strategy to increase the connection of our corps members of color to the community
  • Potentially launch a Latino Corps Member leadership initiative with current corps members to create a pipeline of community leaders for Phoenix

Team Support and Cross-Team Affairs

  • Utilize national and regional data management systems to accurately report and track progress towards goals, as well as make data-based decisions regarding priorities.
  • Participate in regional efforts related to talent recruitment for openings on Teach For America (full-time, part-time, and Institute) staff.
  • Support the work of other regional teams when necessary and appropriate, including corps member selection, corps member matriculation, session facilitation, and event participation/logistics.

Candidate Profile and Experience Prerequisites Skills

  • Proven history of building strong networks in diverse communities
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Poise, confidence, and maturity interacting with key stakeholders
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented in executing tasks
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships and work with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Deep knowledge and interest in issues of diversity
  • Ability to deeply understand, communicate, and represent Teach For America's mission, theory of change, and commitment to diversity

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of 3 - 4 years working experience

Approach to Work

  • Ability to be flexible and take an optimistic approach to work
  • Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and deliver measurable results

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred
