About Fresh Prep Fresh Prep (www.myfreshprep.org) is an innovative student-centered curriculum that uses Hip-Hop music to help students review the key content and skills tested by New York State Regents Exams. Leveraging the appeal and mnemonic power of music, Fresh Prep's standards-aligned instruction helps students build the confidence, critical-thinking, and writing skills they need to pass the test.
About the Role The Fresh Prep MC (Master of Curriculum) is a professional teaching artist delivering 50-60 hours of direct instruction to high school students who have previously failed their New York State Regents Exam in Global History, US History, English, or Math.
The Fresh Prep MC:
o Develops rigorous and engaging, weekly lesson plans and Power Point presentations that follow Fresh Prep curriculum maps.
o Provides differentiated instruction to nurture the academic growth and success of all students.
o Participates in weekly Fresh Prep team meetings, monthly program evaluation meetings, and regular staff trainings.
o Contributes to Fresh Prep curriculum design and implementation.
o Coordinates instructional activities with school administrators and Fresh Prep Staff.
o Collaborates with classroom teachers to design instructional strategies and plan activities.
o Assists in the design and facilitation of professional development workshops for teachers on culturally responsive methodology and successful implementation of Fresh Prep curricula.
o Assesses student progress towards meeting learning objectives.
o Collects and collates data on student demographics and outcomes.
Key Qualifications The Fresh Prep MC a teaching artist who possesses, at minimum, a four-year degree from an accredited university. Applicants with advanced degrees and/or teaching credentials are highly preferred.
Eligible candidates for this position must have:
o A four-year degree from an accredited university.
o At least 2 years of teaching experience.
o A solid working knowledge and understanding of at least one Regents Exam subject area (US History, Global History, English, and/or Math).
o High-level teaching skills and the ability to apply those skills effectively within the classroom.
o A demonstrable awareness of progressive teaching practices and the principles of democratic education.
o An awareness of, and an appreciation for, the artistic, cultural and historical impact of Hip-Hop.
o The ability and willingness to commit to a seasonal work schedule of at least 20 hours per week, between the hours of 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Additionally, the Fresh Prep MC should:
o Be a detail oriented administrator, with well-developed organizational skills.
o Have experience working in youth development settings with high school-age students.
o Demonstrate an awareness of important social issues and have a track record as a catalyst for positive social change.
