The New York City Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association is a founding member of the Alzheimer's Association which is the largest national voluntary health organization dedicated to advancing research for the causes, treatments, and prevention of Alzheimer's disease. As baby boomers enter the age of greatest risk, Alzheimer's disease is becoming the leading public health crisis of the 21st century.

Our mission

The mission of the Alzheimer's Association, New York City Chapter is to create and promote comprehensive and humane care for persons with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, to provide support for their families and professional caregivers, and to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research. The Chapter meets this mission in the community through increasing public awareness, providing education, creating and encouraging replication of model programs, collaborating with research centers, and undertaking advocacy.

Our vision

The New York Chapter provides information, assistance and support to patients, caregivers and professionals, throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Our chapter sponsors many programs including our 24-hour Helpline, Support Groups for Caregivers and Early Stage People, training and education for professionals, our MedicAlert + Safe Return Program that helps locate patients who get lost, and many more.

Walk Associate

The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research. The Walk in Manhattan raises $1million annually and, since 1989, the Walk has raised more than $300 million for the cause.

Scope of Position

The Walk Associate's works with the Constituent Events Department and reports to the VP, Director of Operations (who is also in charge of the Walk). This position is for hire starting in July and ends November 8th. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Requirements

- Liaise between Walk Participants and Donors and Chapter staff

- Raise money for the Walk to End Alzheimer's through:

  • Building relationships with participants and teams
  • Maintaining and cultivating existing relationships
  • Soliciting new relationships

- Send out marketing communications to walker database

- Coordinate logistics, record-keeping and assist with execution of Walk, attended by over 4,500 participants and 500 teams

- Assist with marketing strategy sessions

- Work with webmaster to ensure the most up-to-date information is communicated and relayed accurately and timely

- Manage new projects on an as-needed basis

Skills Required:

- Prior experience in Event Planning and Communications preferred

- Excellent written and verbal communications skills

- Sound interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills are essential

- Self-motivated with ability to drive results with a sense of urgency

- Forward, creative thinker

- Possess a positive and calm demeanor in addition to excellent problem solving skills

- Demonstrated initiative and the ability to manage multiple priorities

- Ability to collaborate across the organization and outside of the organization and influence a wide range of stakeholders

- Promote a culture of teamwork, creativity, passion and fun!
