The JCC's EngAGE Jewish Service Corps seeks to create a cohort of Baby Boomers to bring life-long skill-sets to relevant and fulfilling volunteer work on the upper west side and throughout New York City. Through community partnerships, we strive to make a meaningful volunteer experience for the baby boomers in our midst. The Community Organizer will develop, manage, and implement all aspects of this program during its pilot year and beyond, working in close coordination with key volunteer leadership and JCC staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Management and Development:
- Oversee pilot of multi-institutional effort to engage baby boomer population in a volunteer corps established to serve the needs of vulnerable populations in the Jewish community- specifically the frail elderly, children with special needs and those facing economic hardships.
- the isolated and frail elderly and special needs population in the Jewish community
- Collaborate with key community partners to engage and strengthen community
- Recruit and engage large cohort of adult volunteers
- Establish partnerships and volunteer placements with community partners and volunteer lay leaders
- Designate, train, supervise and mentor key volunteer leadership positions
- Hold regularly scheduled volunteer cohort meetings
- Respond to issues raised by constituents
Intra-agency and Community Collaboration:
- Partner with both the JCC Director of Adult Programs and the JCC Director of Literacy, Math, and Volunteer Programs to create linkages between program areas
- Collaborate with JCC staff in marketing department to establish and promote recruitment campaign
Position Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years' community organizing or similar community building experience
- A passion for Jewish community building in a pluralistic environment
- Experience working with the Boomer population, a plus
- MSW, MPA, or other relevant graduate degree strongly preferred
