KIPP, or the Knowledge is Power Program, is a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools in educationally underserved communities. Nearly 26,000 students attend one of the 125 KIPP schools that operate in 20 states and the District of Columbia. KIPP Philadelphia Schools (KPS) is a part of the national KIPP network and currently has four schools, serving approximately 1200 students in North and West Philadelphia.

About KIPP Philadelphia Charter School:

KIPP Philadelphia Charter School (KPCS), an open-enrollment public charter school located in North Philadelphia, opened in 2003 and currently serves approximately 350 students in grades 5-8. Students and their parents choose to attend KPCS from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm during the week, on selected Saturday mornings and for three weeks during the summer in preparation for college.

Job Description

KPCS is seeking an Assistant Principal to lead and coordinate excellence in instruction, academics and character. The Assistant Principal reports directly to the School Leader, who provides guidance and direction and sets school policy. In this role, the Assistant Principal will manage others, drive results and build relationships to prove the possible with a strong focus on students at the heart of each decision made.

  • Plan and deliver professional development sessions as well as seek out professional development opportunities for the entire staff
  • Directly manage teachers to develop and drive instruction through regular lesson plan feedback, consistent classroom observations and collaborative data analysis.
  • Meet with teachers to provide feedback and development during curriculum planning and evaluation meetings in addition to informal interactions.
  • Establish and maintain strong communication lines with all parents by being available for events outside regular school hours and remaining on call in the evenings (via school cell phone)
  • Create, maintain and follow through on deliberate programming and systems for developing and celebrating student character
  • Work with Regional Academics team to coordinate and implement regular interim assessments and manage the evaluation and use of results
  • Uses data from multiple sources to drive decisions made in the school
  • Supports the instructional program by providing instruction in classrooms when necessary (substitute teaching, teaching weekly classes, teaching enrichment classes, etc.)
  • Serve as instructional leader on campus, and serve in School Leader's role, when warranted

Qualifications

KPS requires the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience leading adults; goal-setting, providing meaningful feedback and setting professional development plans
  • Detail oriented, strong communication and organization skills in addition to extreme flexibility to accommodate multiple priorities
  • Pass all required criminal and child abuse background checks
  • Proven track-record of high student achievement primarily with educationally underserved students
  • A passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture

KPS prefers the following qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of teaching experience required; upper elementary through 8th experience in an urban school
  • Pennsylvania Instructional Certification (I or II)

Compensation

Salary is competitive with other Charter Management Organizations (CMO's) and commensurate with experience. The schools offer a comprehensive benefits package.
