TITLE: Out of School-Time [OST] Program Director

LOCATION: Lower East Side, Manhattan

DEPARTMENT: Youth Services

REPORTS TO: Director of Youth Services

SALARY RANGE: $46, 000 or dependent Upon Experience

START DATE: August 2014

SCHEDULE: MON- FRI; THREE SATURDAYS (35 HOURS PER WEEK)

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction and leadership of the Director of Youth Services the OST Program Director should be a dynamic and proactive individual who will have overall responsibility for daily after-school program development. This person must be innovative, creative, and detail-oriented, have excellent organizational and communication skills, and be passionate about youth leadership and positive youth development. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the hiring, training, evaluation, supervision, and management of daily operations of a diverse staff ranging from seasoned activity specialists to high school interns. Additionally, the Program Director is responsible for program development, managing relations with schools and program partners, managing the program's budget, and meeting all contractual DYCD obligations. The Program Director will be responsible for marketing the program to target communities and schools, representing the program at off-site meetings and conferences. As part of the Youth Services Team the Program Coordinator will work closely with the Assistant Director of the Teen Services and other program coordinators to ensure that all aspects of the department's vision are fulfilled.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, or Education preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • At least five (5) years of experience working in a community center or after school program; at least two years of which were in a supervisory position.
  • Strong, demonstrated computer skills
  • Knowledgeable of principles and practices of management, supervision and training
  • Program background in Leadership, STEM, Health & Sexuality, Careers & Life Planning, Sports, and Academic Enrichment highly desirable.
  • Excellent record keeping techniques
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed in the Community Center and may require some physical labor and non-standard hours.
  • Ability to work independently, assesses priorities, and take initiative.
  • High level of proficiency in administrative work.
  • Capacity to thrive under pressure while working on multiple tasks and projects.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish preferred) a plus,
  • Knowledge of the public education system and positive youth development best practices.
  • Strong public speaking, writing and organizational skills
  • A team player with demonstrated commitment to working with urban youth and young adults from an asset-based perspective.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to set up and maintain work environment that challenges gender stereotypes and is LGBT-friendly
  • A background in partnering with the Board of Education,
  • Have skills in experiential learning, and group facilitation with youth
  • Candidate must successfully complete the following: NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening; New York State Clearance Review Background Check; 3 Reference Check; Physical w/ updated TB Test ( Fees may apply)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees day-to-day operations of our funded Department of Youth & Community Development [DYCD] OST (Out of School- Time) contract for middle school youth; this includes after-school, Holiday, Saturday and Summer Camp programs
  • Coordinate participant outreach, application and enrollment process;
  • Recruit 125 middle school youth into afterschool program
  • Ensure program maintains a 90% Average Daily Attendance
  • Implement the following core components:
    • Academic Support
    • Enrichment
    • Physical Activity/Healthy Living
    • Parent/Caretaker Involvement
    • Support Assistant Director with NDA Youth Contract; Ensure that middle school youth are successfully recruited into the academic component of after school program.
    • Work with Assistant Director in coordinating daily structured activities for all middle school youth as per the contract goals
    • Work in partnership with school administration and Educational Coordinator to ensure after school activities are aligned with day school learning and school vision.
    • Actively seek partnership opportunities with host school and the community.
    • Coordinates part time staff schedules and program activities; Supervise and provide leadership to part time staff.
    • Ensure attendance tracking and reporting and meets contractual requirements regarding enrollment and attendance.
    • Serves as the primary liaison for school administration, parents and other community entities and constituencies.
    • Ensures that program participants are engaged in daily activities and programming.
    • Ensure that parents of program participants are actively engaged in OST program ( i.e. special events, parent workshops, etc)
    • Attends regular staff meetings, trainings and workshops as needed.
    • Tracks and supports participant academic growth and development.
    • Coordinates field trips and actively seeks new opportunities for participants.
    • Prepare and maintain timelines and action items to support implementation of major events and initiatives.
    • Required to complete SACC Program Director's (30 hour) credentials within the first three (3 months of hire

Required to complete STEM, KIDS Lit & KIDS Math training within the first three (3) months of hire
