Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice is the nation's leading progressive Jewish organizational voice dedicated to organizing and mobilizing American Jews to find solutions to the most pressing problems in America. Inspired by Jewish values, Bend the Arc is creating justice and opportunity for all through community organizing and investing, leadership development, civic engagement, and progressive political activism. We work beyond religious and institutional boundaries to leverage the Jewish community's historic roots in domestic affairs and civil rights to shape the national conversation and build a more equitable and just America. Bend the Arc's range of programmatic work includes base building, community organizing, leadership development, community investing, political advocacy, and national and local campaigns.

General Statement of Responsibilities:

We are seeking a motivated and energetic person with online communications and organizing experience and a commitment to building an informed, powerful base of American Jews working to change the national conversation around domestic issues and civil rights. You must have exemplary written and verbal communications skills and a deep interest in social justice.

You will report directly to the Communications Director and work closely with the Organizing, Development and other Departments and Projects at Bend the Arc. You will have the opportunity to work with some of the leading online campaigners and organizers in the country. The ideal candidate will be a team player, willing to demonstrate initiative and take a risk, and be a person for whom collaboration is important.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Play an important role in a core team developing and executing campaigns, from strategy and idea generation through testing and implementation. These will range from rapid response campaigns that capitalize on unexpected media moments to longer-term initiatives that build strength over time and support for Bend the Arc.
  • Develop and execute high-impact, opportunity driven campaign strategies combining online tactics, media expertise and strategic partnerships; measure and evaluate campaign effectiveness using online tools and other methods.
  • Write persuasive email communications and other materials, such as e-newsletters, website content and campaign collateral.
  • Update website content.
  • Help identify strategic opportunities for Bend the Arc advocacy campaigns.
  • Research priority issues and targeted officials.
  • Stay informed about designated issues and seek out exciting opportunities to campaign on these issues.
  • Monitor advocacy and grassroots campaigns in our key issue areas and communicate regularly with activists on the ground to identify opportunities for Bend the Arc supporters to act.
  • Interact with partner organization counterparts at the local and national level to collect and synthesize relevant information that will support and generate campaigns.

Qualifications and required skills:

  • A commitment to the Bend the Arc mission as a path toward progressive change
  • 2+ years of experience organizing online campaigns for social change
  • Ability to write quickly, persuasively and on deadline is a must. Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated success engaging and building activist base around politics and issues of social change.
  • Experience using Convio to create emails and online actions, create reports, and track and analyze results over time for multiple campaigns.
  • Experience updating websites in HTML or CMS site maintenance environments and using web metrics tools such as Google analytics.
  • A desire to work with high impact teams of dedicated organizers, technologists, and development experts.
  • Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, and deadline obsessed.
  • Knowledgeable about the digital space and the role new technologies play in movement-building.
  • B.A. degree

Preferred:

  • Experience with social justice work in a Jewish context.
  • Knowledge of the regional/statewide Jewish and social justice communal landscapes, as well as the labor movement/landscape.
  • Understanding of technology and digital strategy with experience building digital products.
  • Experience in online fundraising for nonprofit organizations.
  • Understanding of U.S. national and state politics and mass engagement around political issues.

Location: New York City
