Mobius Motors designs, manufactures, and sells highly durable, highly affordable vehicles for Africa's mass market. Our vehicles create a transport platform that empowers local entrepreneurs to run profitable transportation services to end-users in their communities.

We are seeking a long term commitment from an exceptional business professional interested in a truly unique entrepreneurial opportunity to create impact on a global scale. The successful candidate will lead and drive development and execution of a commercialization strategy for an early stage automobile manufacturing company. The holder should expect to wear different hats in this senior role, leading efforts to develop and grow profitable business operations in Kenya and beyond. The role will require a close working relationship with the venture's CEO, Operations Director, Technical Director, Financial Director and key staff. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Leadership

  1. Contribute to the development and refinement of Mobius's vision and strategy and collaborate with Mobius leadership to ensure organisational priorities are balanced and implemented in line with company's strategic and operational plans.
  2. Provide strategic leadership in defining the company's commercial path to growth and profitability and the establishment of an effective growth process and infrastructure.
  3. Lead the marketing, sales and aftersales teams to identify, analyse, and implement new business growth opportunities and collaborate with cross-functional teams, and the leadership team to analyse the business case for all future product changes.
  4. Maintain an organisational climate that attracts, retains, and motivates top quality personnel through effective performance management, team leadership, coaching, and mentorship.

Marketing

  1. Lead development of the company's marketing strategy with an emphasis on achieving market penetration and sales growth with a particular emphasis on cost-effective customer acquisition and market demand generation.
  2. Create innovative marketing strategies that will build the Mobius brand, leading to increased awareness, sales revenue, relevance and acceptability within the target market.
  3. Facilitate future-focused product ideation sessions and capture output for continuous design exploration; develop longer term product category/mix roadmaps based on deep and broad consumer profiling.
  4. Create data-driven, dynamic, 'voice-of-the-customer' marketing strategies and tests that deliver against Return on Investment (ROI) targets through a segmented customer base across marketing channels.
  5. Act as a liaison for all external media enquiries or articles, working with the CEO when necessary to facilitate interviews or other content.

Partnerships

  1. Build and maintain strong partnerships with banks and other financial institutions, buyers, dealers and other strategic commercial and non-commercial organisations and NGOs, in order to ensure market leadership of the Mobius brand now and in the future.
  2. Liaise with banks, MFIs, and internal finance team to develop a deep understanding of loan/credit products available to customers and facilitate negotiation of attractive end-to-end partnership agreements with select finance institutions and Mobius leadership.
  3. Oversee selection, setup and management of future vehicle dealerships across Kenya and the region.

Sales

  1. Develop and implement the company's sales strategy across key market segments to ensure that the company identifies and optimizes a clear path to aggressive growth. Assess, build and manage an array of necessary channels capable of delivering on the company's growth objectives.
  2. Manage strategic B2B commercial relationships with key public, private, local and international NGOs.
  3. Maintain strong B2C feedback system with individual customers to ensure a well maintained communication framework for both potential and current customers.

Aftersales

  1. Work with Aftersales team to develop ordering and logistics strategy to determine lowest cost and highest service levels to ensure spare part availability to Mobius customers and, identify and support selection of international and local suppliers for service and spare parts.
  2. Monitor and analyse performance of international and local suppliers for service and spare parts against agreed metrics.

Project Management

  1. Take ownership of projects; work with the Project Planner to establish milestones, timelines, budgets, and resources, as well as identify potential risks, necessary to deliver projects within agreed completion dates.
  2. Proactively complete tasks and periodically advise wider team on project status, timing, resources, issues, and ability to deliver on-time with excellence.
  3. Ensure adherence and compliance to general automotive industry marketing standards and best practices; maintain structured and versioned data outputs daily and backup data weekly.
  4. Lead teams in ensuring effective communication between colleagues and positively contribute regularly during project design meetings and briefings.

Qualifications

An ideal candidate should have a track record of academic and professional achievement and demonstrate a strong business acumen and passion for Mobius's business. He or she should combine expertise in sales, marketing, finance, and analytics with exceptional communication, interpersonal and leadership skills as well as on-the-ground pragmatism and patience necessary to manage ambiguities involved with an early-stage venture in a developing country. Most of all, they should demonstrate integrity and accountability.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree (minimum) in business subject with 3.4 GPA or higher from a top university worldwide
  • Minimum 7 years' experience in sales, marketing, management consulting, or other similar roles for top tier companies
  • Exceptional leadership and clear sense of direction
  • Detail oriented and capable of delivering high quality outputs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build strong rapport with others
  • Ability to effectively communicate timelines and project progress with both internal and external management teams
  • A start-up personality; entrepreneurial, ambitious, independent, detail oriented, proactive, flexible, and resilient
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical ability in cross-functional and multi-cultural environment; able to define problems, collect relevant data, extract meaning and draw valid conclusions
  • The highest level of integrity and accountability
  • A good sense of humour and an appreciation for different cultures
  • Proven ability and experience in managing and leading high performance teams
  • Proven ability to work as part of a senior management team to develop and implement company strategy
  • Practical experience in the application of digital marketing and social media as part of integrated marketing campaigns
  • Experience in managing budgets effectively, financial reporting, and setting up effective metrics and business processes
  • International experience in automobile industry
  • Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree or Masters degree in a technical subject from a top university worldwide
  • 7+ years' experience in a commercial role that combines marketing, sales, aftersales, management consulting, or other similar roles for top tier companies at senior management level
