Job description

JFS is seeking an experienced grants manager to lead our team of analysts in supporting the organization's complex (primarily government) contract operations.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Manage and protect all government and private contract and grant funding to insure compliance with contract requirements, appropriate allocations of costs, and accurate and timely reporting to contracting agencies or foundations;
  • Provide financial and support for program directors to help them achieve appropriate and successful delivery of service and levels of service as stipulated in contracts; analyze monthly variance reports and develop strategies that will address any irregularities.
  • Lead, direct and motivate staff of contract analysts;
  • Ensure that the maximum amount of administrative overhead costs are collected on each contract and grant by understanding each funding stream and its opportunities and limitations, contributing to and ultimately approving all grant budgets and budget modifications;
  • Provide all required agency support for programmatic, fiscal and administrative audits of all contracts and grants;
  • Work closely with Human Resources and others to insure that all administrative requirements of contracts and grants are met and can be readily demonstrated;
  • Approach all job functions using principals of continuous quality improvement,
  • Supervise and coordinate the agency's responsibilities in the annual A-133 single audit by preparing all records and responding to all requests from independent auditors;
  • Assist Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, Controller and Chief Financial Officer with annual budgets, monthly forecasts and financial analysis projects, especially as related to contract and grant funding;
  • Work closely with the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, the Controller and the Chief Financial Officer to plan and shape the successful financial future of JFS;

Requirements B.S/B.A. required;

Degree in business administration or accounting preferred

Minimum of seven years progressive management of government contracts and programs;

Minimum of three years prior supervisory experience;

Strong knowledge of grants accounting, cost accounting and contract management;

Thorough knowledge of OMB Circulars A-122 and A-133;

Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate staff while improving productivity;

Demonstrated ability to work proactively and successfully with program managers and contract monitors;

Proven ability to manage rapid change responsibly;

Proven ability to design, implement and maintain successful systems for managing contracts and grants deadlines and requirements;

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);

Knowledge and experience in not-for-profit (fund) accounting strongly preferred;

Self starter willing to extended and irregular hours when necessary;

Proven inclination to independently identify problems and implement successful solutions;

Proven focus on superior internal and external customer service;

Strong verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal and organizational skills;

Strong computer skills and knowledge including automated accounting, word processing, database operations, and spreadsheets.
