buildOn seeks a dynamic Development Director to strategically execute on a variety of fundraising initiatives, including: major gifts, corporate partnerships, foundation/grant research & individual giving. The Development Director must have marketing and communication experience which will translate to an increase in annual revenues through running local campaigns & event fundraising. In addition to developing and implementing strategies for prospecting and bringing in new donors, the Development Director will manage an existing pool of donors.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fundraising and sales as well as be an exceptional writer. The Director will be committed to buildOn's mission and the community we serve. The Development Director will also be an excellent communicator, with the ability to listen and create a tailored pitch, both in writing and verbally, and will be excited by the responsibility of being accountable for significantly increasing financial support for buildOn.

Reporting to the Vice President of Development, West Coast, you will be an integral part in engaging strategic partnerships that will help achieve buildOn's aggressive fundraising goals.

  • In the U.S., buildOn empowers urban youth in some of the nation's toughest schools to transform their neighborhoods through afterschool programs and intensive community service. Our students have contributed more than 1 million hours of service to their communities. 94% of buildOn students not only graduate from high school, they go on to college.
  • Internationally, buildOn works alongside local communities to build schools in some of the economically poorest countries, including Haiti, Nicaragua, Nepal, Senegal, Malawi, and Mali. We have built more than 525 schools around the world; in 2013 we will break ground on a new school every four days.
  • Students from our U.S. programs travel to live and work with these villages, to learn help with the school construction and to be immersed in a different culture. They return from the experience empowered to change their own communities and the entire world.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Drive revenue in support of our After School Programs and International School Building Programs
  • Demonstrate success in securing major gifts from individuals & corporate sponsorship
  • Annually direct the Bay Area Dinner Gala Fundraiser
  • Strategically develop and manage a portfolio of donors while building strong relationships, increasing donor renewal rates, and securing new major gift opportunities
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships that will lead to an increase in incremental revenue in cash and in-kind
  • Research and identify local or national foundations that focus funding in the Bay Area
  • Analyze supporter data to find new opportunities, ensure all activities are measurable to drive efficiencies and maximize results
  • Develop and grow corporate strategic partners
  • Expand the donor experience with a focus on our After School Programs
  • Demonstrate a history of successful fund raising with sustainable results
  • Demonstrate your ability to multi-task, be strategic, entrepreneurial and a savvy relationship builder

Qualifications:

  • BA degree required, continued education preferred
  • 3-5 years of fundraising and direct sales experience with a proven track record in major gifts, corporate partnerships & foundations
  • A successful track record in cultivating new relationships with major gift donors, corporate partnerships & foundations
  • Extensive knowledge of the Bay Area philanthropic community
  • Ability to seek out and engage new prospects
  • Excellent communication skills and follow through
  • Ability to track all communications and donor activity in a (CRM) program, specifically Salesforce
