Job description

ABOUT US

Reading Partners is a nonprofit literacy organization that recruits and trains community volunteers to provide one-on-one reading tutoring to students in under-resourced schools across the country. Our highly effective program has helped thousands of children master the fundamental reading skills they need to succeed in school and beyond. For more information, please visit www.readingpartners.org.

AmeriCorps*VISTA was developed under President Johnson's Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. VISTA arose as a national anti-poverty program, designed to become the domestic version of the Peace Corps. VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) aims to address poverty at a local level by engaging volunteers in a year of service. In 1993, VISTA was brought into the AmeriCorps program, and renamed AmeriCorps*VISTA. There are now 6,500 service members nationwide at over 1,200 sites, with projects aimed at improving literacy, economic, and health outcomes in low-income communities. VISTA members commit to a full year term of service at a local non-profit or agency. VISTAs focus their efforts and skills on building organizational capacity at their service site.
