Dynamic, innovative non-profit agency seeks experienced person for management position in our Boston office. Ideal candidate will have management experience, knowledge of subsidized housing programs, experience managing government grants and a dedication to ending homelessness.
HomeStartis Greater Boston's leading provider of housing services for homeless households, assisting adults and families from more than 50 shelters, transitional programs, and recovery homes with obtaining permanent housing and settling into the community. HomeStart also serves as a clearinghouse of housing publications, vacancy information, and special rental subsidies.
Primary Responsibilities
- Work with HomeStart management team on coordination of agency services and planning.
- Direct all aspects of the Housing Search Program, including search activities and services, record keeping, contract compliance, grant writing, data management and program budget.
- Hire, train, and supervise 10 housing advocates, 2 managers; develop and lead a team of 18 staff members and four volunteers.
- Serve as a liaison with shelters and transitional programs to coordinate housing search activities.
- Represent HomeStart on various city/state-led committees dedicated to ending homelessness.
- Lead monthly advocacy meeting of Greater Boston's housing advocates serving homeless and at risk households; assist with advocacy efforts to increase access to affordable housing.
- Oversee activities to improve access to housing options, such as landlord outreach efforts, vacancy clearinghouse, walk in hours, client resource area, collaborations with McKinney SROs and the like.
- Oversee development and maintenance of housing publications and housing search trainings.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years relevant experience.
- 1-3 years experience supervising housing advocates, case managers or equivalent direct service staff.
- Experience managing multiple external relationships
- Strong leadership skills, flexibility, ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to lead a diverse team and work well with a broad range of people.
- Excellent math, verbal and written skills.
- Computer proficiency required.
- Knowledge of homelessness and housing issues strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of subsidized housing programs strongly preferred.
- Strong advocacy skills and dedication to helping homeless people move beyond shelter.
