General Description

The Communications Administrator position at the Alameda County Bar Association is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Director of Administration and Finance. The Communications Administrator manages all ACBA communications and targeted marketing strategies with the purpose of promoting the ACBA and its programs to members and the public, utilizing appropriate modes of communication. The Communications Administrator works closely with program Administrators to increase membership and attendance at events, expand the Lawyer Referral Service client base, raise donations for the Volunteer Legal Services Corporation, and further other organizational goals. This position also assists with staffing volunteer groups and promoting the mission of the ACBA.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop and implement an effective communications plan for the ACBA.

2. Oversee strategic communications within the ACBA, setting and meeting clear, achievable communications goals, tracking their impact and revising strategies as needed, while ensuring that all communications are professional, consistent, appropriate, and timely;

3. Produce a biweekly electronic newsletter; ACBA newsletters in The Daily Journal and The Recorder; electronic event announcements; and all other documents as needed, including invitations, programs, flyers and brochures;

4. Document ACBA events (photographically and journalistically) for post-event publicity;

5. Generate advertising revenue from the website, e-newsletter and other communications, as well as coordinating advertiser relationships with other ACBA programs;

6. Manage the ACBA website using a content-based management system to ensure up-to-date content, and regularly track website traffic and adjust website structure and content accordingly;

7. Maintain the ACBA's social media campaigns to serve organizational goals;

8. Maintain communications style guide and other communications policies, and ensure staff and volunteer compliance with those policies;

9. Create and maintain a library of ACBA documents, including all commonly-used ACBA forms, brochures, fliers, and other communications;

10. Produce the annual ACBA print publication, The ACBA Yearbook, including content and design, vendor management and coordinating advertisement sales;

11. Produce the biannual ACBA Membership Directory, including scheduling member photos, publicity, production, design, vendor management and coordinating advertisement sales;

12. Coordinate the biannual Judicial Evaluation Survey, including scheduling, publicity, assistance to members and final reporting;

13. Serve as staff liaison to the Communications Advisory Committee and other Committees as assigned;

14. Oversee communications budget; and

15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

BA degree or equivalent work experience in Communications

Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, and an understanding of nonprofit communications and public relations principles

Experience in graphic design, digital photography manipulation, and marketing

Website management experience

Ability to prepare and monitor budgets

Ability to manage multiple deadlines

Proficient use of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint), and Adobe Creative Suite (or other graphic design software)

Professional demeanor and ability to safeguard confidential information

Good critical thinking skills and good exercise of judgment

Experience with volunteers and committees helpful

High-energy, motivated and enthusiastic personality helpful
