The person in this position will work closely with NYU faculty on local, state, and federal education policy issues.
IESP conducts non-partisan scientific research about U.S. education and related social policy issues. Results help inform policymakers about the effectiveness of instructional programs, the impact of school reform initiatives, and the social and financial determinants of academic achievement. Current research topics include school food policies, STEM education, student mobility, foreclosures and achievement, school accountability, and career and technical education. Our research is funded through federal, state, local and private grants, including the Institute for Education Sciences, National Science Foundation, Spencer Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, New York City Fund for Public Schools and the New York State Education Department.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree in economics, sociology, public policy, education or a related field, and demonstrated proficiency in designing and conducting academically rigorous policy-related education research. Strong quantitative analytic skills and proficiency with SAS or Stata are required. Expertise in accessing, manipulating and interpreting large student-level data sets and ability to present and communicate complex research findings are strongly preferred. The successful candidate will be well organized, comfortable working under deadlines, detail-oriented, flexible to changing priorities and have demonstrated success in completing projects on time. Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work both independently and collaboratively. Those who are near to completing their doctoral program will also be considered.
The appointee will hold a full time, 12 month post-doctoral associate position with benefits. Salary depends on experience and qualifications.
