We are seeking two teachers: one for Pre-k -1st grade and one to work with our 6th -12th graders. The purpose of this part-time position is to support the efforts of Abraham House's After School Program. The After School Program hours are from 3:00pm-6:00pm, Monday thru Thursday. Stability is key to assure the promotional success of the After School Program students, therefore there is no flexibility in the schedule. Please only apply if you can commit to be present during all of the program hours. We ask that you commit to the position for at least 6 months. This position is a good fit for someone looking to work 12-14 hours a week to further their experience as an educator/after school instructor or for someone looking to gain some exposure to working with children.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop curriculum/lesson plans and implement these daily
- Provide daily literacy lessons
- Record daily attendance of after school program students
- Promote the physical, intellectual, social, cultural and emotional well-being of the students
- Supervise homework and completion of special school projects
- Document and assess student learning
- Manage the bulletin board
- Collaborate effectively with families, assistant teachers and tutors
Qualifications:
- Must have at minimum, a Bachelor's degree
- Must have at least two years of teaching experience
- Must be willing to complete training pursuant to guidelines of the Office of Children and Family Services
- Must be mature and of good character, and have the energy and emotional stability necessary to fullfil the responsibilites of the position
- Position requires fingerprinting and a background check
- Must possess interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work independently
- Preferred knowledge of Spanish and experience working with inner city youth
