The mission of Fahari Academy Charter School is to educate, support, and challenge students who reside in Brooklyn's Flatbush neighborhood for success in college and beyond.

Fahari has a unique union contract and collaborative relationship with the, United Federation of Teachers (UFT). Instructional staff will typically earn approximately 20% more than the Department of Education scale. Novice teachers receive structured mentoring and feedback while more experienced teachers receive coaching and leadership opportunities.

Responsibilities of a Social Studies Teacher:
- Implement an inquiry-based social studies curriculum
- Implement lessons aligned to the social studies standards, ELA Common Core standards and state assessments
- Write daily lesson plans and units of study
- Responsible for all lesson plans, assignments, assessments, and other instructional materials and methods of teaching in your classroom
- Collect, report, and analyze both quantitative and qualitative data about students and refine lesson plans accordingly
- Support a school culture of high academic and behavioral standards and create a supportive and engaging learning community for Fahari students in classrooms
- Collaborate with other staff members and leadership in meeting specific student needs
- Work collaboratively with all Fahari staff and leadership
- Assume personal responsibility as part of a grade level and department team for the academic progress of all students
- Communicate and maintain a strong relationship with students and their families
- Complete all teaching responsibilities professionally, on-time and to the best of one's abilities
- Perform all other duties assigned by the school leadership team
Candidate Requirements
- An understanding and belief in the mission and guiding principles of Fahari Academy Charter School
- Knowledge of New York State Learning Standards in social studies as well the English Language Arts Common Core
- Strong content knowledge and content pedagogy knowledge in social studies, including how to plan interdisciplinary units of study
- Strong understanding of how to support literacy through the social studies curriculum
- Knows the requirements of state assessments
- Knows how to write lesson plans and units of study
- Exceptional ability to develop and maintain productive and collaborative relationships
- Ability to create, monitor, and maintain systems that enhance classroom efficiency and effectiveness
- Desire to be a learner and to participate in a variety of learning opportunities
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to be able to adapt and accommodate to changing dynamics within the school
- Ability to thrive with a diverse team of staff members
- Ability to work autonomously as well as in teams
- 2+ years of teaching experience in an urban, public, or charter school
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in social studies or history preferred
- New York state teaching certification in childhood, childhood with middle school extension or social studies 7-12 required
