Job description

The Police Assessment Resource Center (PARC) is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and assisting those responsible for the oversight of police departments nationwide to advance effective, respectful, and publicly accountable policing. Its staff also assists Special Counsel to Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors (PARC President Merrick Bobb) in monitoring the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Job Description: PARC seeks a Research Associate to work on PARC's major projects including, but not limited to, continuous monitoring of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department; publication of a quarterly newsletter; and general resource center work.

Collect and analyze data from multiple sources and help prepare public reports

  • Conduct research on a broad array of policing issues
  • Review police department records and investigations
  • Analyze police department and oversight agency policies and procedures
  • Write reports for law enforcement agencies based on the results of research and analysis
  • Conduct interviews with representatives from government agencies, police departments, police oversight agencies, community organizations, and members of the public

Qualifications:

  • At minimum, a Bachelor's degree in the social sciences, criminal justice, sociology, public policy, or related disciplines. Master's degree or JD preferred.
  • Research experience: literature reviews, internet research, implementation of research designs, quantitative and qualitative data collection
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Experience with SPSS/Stata and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
