Job description

SUMMARY:

A part-time Spanish/English translator is needed to interpret for Spanish-speaking clients, translate documents, translate important information to clients and translate during group meetings and workshops. The Spanish/English Translator must be able to uphold client confidentiality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate effective communication between monolingual Spanish families and Hildebrand staff by efficiently and accurately converting one spoken or written language to another during case management meetings, workshops, telephone check-ins and other program events.
  • Attend congregate house meetings as scheduled and act as official translator to mediate discussion.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of courtesy and tact during regular contacts with families and uphold the highest level of confidentiality with all client-related information.
  • Provide translation of written material, e.g., brochures, letters, forms, etc., when needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Verbal and written fluency in both English and Spanish.
  • Demonstrated ability to safeguard confidential information.
  • Ability to efficiently and accurately translate written information from English to Spanish and vice versa.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills required.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from a wide range of ethnic and social backgrounds is Critical.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS Degree
  • One year experience in translation and interpretation of English and a required second language. Certified Advanced Translator or additional related education or certification(s) may substitute for the required experience
  • Experience working with homeless population

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • This is a part-time position requiring up to 8 hours per week during regular business hours (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday). Some occasional evening translation may be required for client workshops or meetings.
  • As with all Hildebrand staff positions, a CORI check is required.
