Job Opportunity – Executive Director for a growing education non-profit in the DR
Yspaniola seeks an Executive Director to strengthen and expand our education initiatives in the Dominican Republic, to commit a minimum of 3 years, beginning in the fall of 2013.
The Executive Director will be responsible for a range of duties, including, but not limited to:
- Overseeing and ensuring high-quality of all Yspaniola programs, including:
- Literacy Center in Batey Libertad, Dominican Republic
- University Scholarship Program in Santiago, Dominican Republic
- Service-learning Program for students from various schools in the United States
- Intern Program for students and recent graduates from multiple countries
- Overseeing and communicating with Board of Directors about all hiring decisions
- Managing contracts with all staff and interns
- Coordinating with local staff regarding programming, staffing, budgeting, materials, and financial management
- Maintaining regular communication with the Board of Directors and soliciting Board support for particular tasks and projects
- Managing organization finances, including:
- Budget forecasting
- Overseeing accounting of all income and expenses
- Reviewing and consolidating all local program budgets
- Soliciting new donors and maintaining relationships with past donors
- Hosting special guests or donors that visit the Dominican Republic
- Accompanying and coordinating all service-learning trips, or designating an appropriate substitute
- Developing a strategy to solicit and apply for new grants
- Overseeing Yspaniola's strategic plan, in consultation with the Board of Directors and staff
- Developing new programs and/or expanding existing programs, with prior approval and in close coordination with the Board of Directors and staff
- Reaching out to local and international partner organizations and fostering new partnerships
- Overseeing Yspaniola's media strategy and outreach
- Problem solving and conflict resolution when the need arises
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
- Written and oral fluency in English and Spanish
- Familiarity with French or Haitian Creole preferred
- Master's degree in international development, education, or a related field
- Prior management experience, ideally within the non-profit sector
- 2+ years work experience in a field related to international education, foreign affairs, or international development
- Fundraising experience, including successfully funded grants in the past
- Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail
- Outstanding individual initiative and personal work ethic
- Strong networking skills
- Strong problem solving, particularly in the context of challenges inherent to developing countries
- Excellent interpersonal skills and conflict resolution skills
- Prior experience working and living in a developing country
