Career Collaborative ends poverty for working-class families by helping adults succeed at good jobs. More than 60% of our clients are continuously employed for two or more years. Career Collaborative ranks in the top 10% of workforce development organizations nationally for job retention.

Career Collaborative coaches its clients in helping them have the careers they want; supports Employer Partners in hiring the staff they need to remain successful. The Career Coach provides coaching until the clients are continuously employed for two years and assists them to successfully pursue and accomplish their career goals.

Key responsibilities of the Job Retention Career Coach:

  • Manage a substantial caseload and support clients through pro-active coaching to help them retain their employment
  • Conduct persistent outreach to employed clients using extensive phone and face-to-face contact until they reach two years of continuous employment
  • Help clients understand workplace culture, unwritten workplace rules, employer expectations and to navigate through the work world
  • Be an active member of the Career Collaborative team including but not limited to facilitating groups
  • Coach and teach clients to problem solve, while supporting them in resolving concerns and conflicts
  • Identify client needs for support services and provide referrals

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated understanding of the problems faced by low-income people and the barriers that make continuous employment difficult
  • Excellent coaching skills and demonstrated one-on-one experience coaching adults, coupled with an ability to motivate adults over a sustained period of time
  • Understanding of both the written and unwritten workplace rules, and the attitudes and behaviors that make for continuous employment and career advancement
  • Results oriented individual with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and proven ability to handle competing priorities and to think critically
  • Exceptional interpersonal, time management, decision-making and problem solving skills
  • Sound judgment and decision making; good social perceptiveness; outgoing and inquisitive
  • At least five to seven years of stable professional work experience, ideally in human services (especially workforce development), employee relations, job retention coaching, or career counseling
  • College education preferred
