The Cloud Forest School is a bilingual, progressive PreK--11th grade private school located in rural Monteverde, Costa Rica. Our educational and institutional philosophy is founded in sustainability and economic justice. Ninety-five percent (95%) of our 200 students are Costa Rican, 5% are international students (generally from the US and Canada), and more than 70% of our local students receive deeply discounted tuition. Our staff of 38 is made up of half Costa Rican and half international professionals deeply dedicated to progressive, bi-lingual education. Our school year runs from Early August to June. For our 2017-2018 school year we are looking to hire an Environmental Education Coordinator to start in late July.
The Environmental Education Coordinator will:
---Support the curricular development and implementation of the CEC Education for Sustainability Program (ES) across grade levels, including integration across grades and content areas, classroom resources, collaboration between teachers, and instruction
---Manage and organize the EE library
---Support the development of community partnerships that support EE programs
---Coordinate guest speakers and field trip support for EE classes
---Lead and facilitate the Bandera Azul Student Committee and lead the compilation and reporting of the school's sustainable practices
---Teach Environmental Education classes to high school students (grades 7 to 11th grade) keeping in mind the curricular benchmarks from the Minestery of Education in Costa Rica as well as the International paramaters of Environmental Education classes.
---Support development and planning in areas of campus resource management, including solid waste, recycling, composting, trails, greenhouse areas, organic farm, reforestation, energy, carbon neutrality, and native gardens
---Support EE grant-writing efforts and implementation and assessment of environmental projects
---Substitute as needed (as decided by the Sub-Director and/or Director).
The Environmental Education Coordinator reports to the Director.
- bilingual candidate: some conversational Spanish is helpful
- Degree in Environmental Studies, Resource Management, etc
- 2-5+ years experience in teaching this subject matter
