Live-In Resident Manager

Friends of Youth is a not for profit organization committed to the support of youth and young adults in our community. With over 60 years of experience, 21 program sites, and national accreditation, we provide safe places and emotional support for youth and families in challenging circumstances. Our services include:

-Residential Services: providing therapeutic residential services, including foster care, to youth under 18;
-Homeless Youth Services: providing outreach, overnight shelter, case management, employment and housing for homeless youth and young adults in East King County and South Snohomish County; and
-Youth and Family Services: providing counseling, substance abuse treatment, prevention and parenting programs in East King County.

Friends of Youth is currently seeking a Resident Manager for one of our Transitional Living Program sites that is located in the Sand Point neighborhood of Seattle. This is a great opportunity for graduate students studying Human Services, Social Work, or Counseling. Being so close to the U of W campus, it is an ideal commute.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Resident Manager lives onsite and is a member of the team that supports six formerly homeless mothers and their infants. The Resident Manager, under the supervision of the Lead Case Manager, provides supportive services to the residents Sunday through Thursday evenings. The Resident Manager supervises Weekend Relief staff who provide services to residents Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. Friends of Youth provides the Resident Manager with housing, basic cable, wifi, and utilities. The Resident Manager is responsible landlord tasks, monitoring residents' responsibilities in community living, and emergency coverage. This position requires 20 onsite hours per week (6 to 10 pm each of the five nights) and emergency overnight on-call from house residents between Sunday and Thursday evenings.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Member of the New Ground Sand Point Team, assisting in leading residents from crisis to self-sufficiency. Attend the weekly evening House Meeting that is facilitated by the Case Manager, providing support to the Case Manager in her/his facilitation of the Meeting.
Ensure that the house is properly maintained through monitoring resident chore completion and filling in when needed so that the house and grounds are clean. Responsible for entering Maintenance Requests into the agency database scheduler and ensuring that the area of the house that needs maintenance is clean and ready for Maintenance personnel.
Work with residents on their paying rent on time, collecting money orders, and submitting money orders and rent paperwork to the Program Manager.
Provide direct supervision to all Weekend Relief staff and assist in the interviewing and training of new Weekend Relief staff. Facilitate quarterly meetings/trainings for Weekend Relief staff.
Schedule and maintain calendar for Weekend Relief shifts. If a weekend or holiday does not have coverage, the Resident Manager must provide coverage. Resident Manager ensures that Weekend Relief have planned one recreational and/or life skills activity with the residents over the weekend.
Conduct intake and exit inspections for each unit upon vacancy or move-in. When a resident exits the program, the Resident Manager, within three days, cleans the unit and, from the move-in supplies, ensures that the new resident has the basic necessities. When needed, the Resident Manager bags personal possessions for storage in the house basement.
Conduct weekly apartment inspections and follow up on any unsatisfactory inspection issues within 48 hours of issuing a Growth Notice to a resident. Provide proper documentation of all inspections to the Lead Case Manager.
Ensure security system is running at all times and video surveillance is reviewed during each shift. Resident Manager tracks the days that a resident is gone overnight and keeps the Case Manager informed when a resident comes close to being gone more than the allotted 8 overnights per month.
Facilitate quarterly storage organization process including donating abandoned belongings to Goodwill and/or disposing of abandoned possessions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
A) Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Must be at least 25 years of age.
Experience working with teens/young adults in alternative setting a plus.
B) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Sensitivity to the issue of homelessness.
Strong interest in working with youth and young adults.
Strong personal and professional boundaries are very important.
Must have valid Washington State driver's license, safe driving record, and have own transportation available with necessary insurance.
Must demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences and a commitment to the value of cultural competency.
